Do you wait 10,000 miles between oil changes?
Reading the manual for my 2003 4.2, it recommends oil changes every 10,000 miles. This seems like a long time to me. I realize the 3,000 "standard" isn't needed. Also I've changed most of my cars' oils at 5,000 intervals and never had a problem. My Toyota manual says 7,500 miles.
Living in FL, lots of stop and go driving, I'm thinking every 6 months at least and maybe 7,500 miles.
What are you guys doing?

It's probably a year or 10K whichever comes first. If jag specify it (and I believe they do), it will be fine. It will almost certainly be quite a bit on the cautious side of fine.
(This assumes you don't have a diesel and you're not in one of the areas where they make it clear to change it sooner, such as the middle east.)

Whatever the interval, what it more important is that the proper level be maintained. Neither too high or too low.
An engine can make do with dirty oil, but improper level can bring disaster quickly. Many people depend on oil changes to maintain the level without checking in between. That is a mistake.
A once a month self check of tire pressures, and accessible fluid levels does not take too much effort. Some people will say it should be done at every fueling. But, in reality that will not happen for most people.

I use Amsoil 0-30 synthetic with a NAPA Gold oil filter. I go by the book in this case - every 10,000 miles. Jaguar has made oil changes a major pain in the tail by requiring that you remove a large belly pan to get to the filter and the drain plug.
If you take it to a shop, an oil change is around $99.00. If you do it at home, it costs about 70.00. I take it to a shop.

Only done 1 change in the STR so far since I have only put 3,000 miles on it. I run synthetic in it and the SAAB - I like to do a change on a round number and then go every 10k, unless there has been a particularly hard period of use I may short change it.
Using a round number (10k, 20k, 30k, etc..) makes it a little easier for me to remember to change it on time. With multiple cars this helps me stay a little less crazy. I'll shortchange one of the SUV's if offroading or towing a lot. That's about it.
If you feel more comfortable with 7500, then go with that. I'm checking all this stuff every week and feel good about 10k changes with quality oil.
I bought oil last week for the next change - got 5Qts of Mobil 1 with a filter for $35 on sale at Advance. Picked up a few more qts and you have an oil change for less than $50 DIY.

No its not...are we driving economy cars here? I have no problem doing that in my leased truck, in fact sometimes i would run 15-16k and wait until the valves start tapping before changing it. It's not smart to do that in a supercharged motor. Maybe in a 3.0 if that is what you have you could do that (heck i probably would too)

My Saab specs out Mobil 1 Synthetic for the 2.0 turbo with a 10,000 mile interval or when the oil life monitor indicates it is time for a change, often a good bit farther than 10k miles. I don't go farther than 10k but it appears manufacturers are comfortable with 10k intervals or even farther - and this is also a forced induction engine.....
And this thread looks like it has followed form with just about all oil related threads....somehow I can't restrain myself from posting in it though. Again.

I've driven company cars ( all diesel ) for around 20 years and laterally, they have come with the longlife service interval, as I was doing mostly easy motorway miles.
The service intervals usually around the 20k mark, which I know most of you will be horrified with, but I've always checked the levels and never had any issues in that dept. Most of my cars were brand new out the box and 3 years later went back with anywhere between 150k miles - 196k miles as I tended to average around 50k miles per year.
Never in 20 years did I ever have any engine issues to speak of!
My new A6 ( now 4 years old ).....I adopted this as at that time I was doing mostly motorway miles and went to around 60k miles using that regime ( I MUST be stupid!! ). Now that I use the car much less and its mostly always stop / start & around town I've went to changing anywhere between 6k - 10k miles.
I'm now at 84k miles and she runs sweet as a nut.
She uses Castrol synthetic 05w30 btw
Note - like anything else here on the site, opinions are exactly that and we all differ. Please DO NOT berate anyone for having one if it doesn't match up with yours! Feel free to argue your point and leave it at that.

I always presume that the OP would prefer to hear 'the truth' substantiated with facts rather than urban legends or common misunderstandings.
