Does a post key need to be programmed or just cut for an 03 S-type?
After much frustration with the remote entry fobs failing on my car, I have decided to install an aftermarket remote keyless entry system in the car. That being said I no longer would need the big bulky remote fob key.
I know we can get simple "post" keys for our cars, which I would prefer to carry along with the aftermarket remote. I know they would have to be cut. Do they also have to be programmed to the ignition by a dealer? Or will the proper cut simply do it.
Thanks in advance,
George

Be aware that sometimes the problem with these electronic key fobs is static electricity that is produced simply from you carrying them in your pocket or even just picking them up and carrying them outside.
There is an anti-static film that can be installed over the circuit board inside your key fob to help with this problem. This was done to both of our S-Type key fobs shortly before I purchased the car in December 2008 and we have never had a single issue with these fobs. I suggest you talk with your dealer about it. In fact, you can probably find similar anti-static film at Radio Shack or similar retailers.
I would do this procedure first before doing anything else with the key fob....
