Default Door panel removal tips so as not to break the trim around the handles

Hi guys. I installed a pair of speakers and when removing the door panel I busted the plastic trim piece that surrounds the door lock switch and the handle to open the door. I'd prefer to not bust them again when I install my 2nd pair of speakers. Anyone have any tips on how to handle this without breaking the plastic? Do I need to remove the plastic piece before removing the door panel?

thanks!

Take a small pick, and gently pull on it, pry it out but dont try to remove it. It snaps in in 3 places. Two in the front and one behind. Once you get it loose, gently pull the door panel, it will work its way loose.
