Hi jaguarlady3! What year and model S-Type to you hail from? It's not normal for a continous clicking sound to be present after manually unlocking the drivers side door.
1. How old are the batteries in the remote (FOB)? 2. Does the FOB's buttons stick or feel loose, etc.? 3. How old is the cars' battery and was it recently disconnected? Check that the cars' battery terminals are snug. Periodically, I perform a hard re-set of the cars' electronics by removing both terminals from the cars' battery, touching them together for 30 seconds, then reconnecting. This resets the cars plethora of electronic modules. Following this there'll be some dash lights and messages that'll clear within a short drive cycle.
Otherwise, if the above fails to resolve the issue, the doors electronic locking mechanism's switch, harness, and/or module may be at fault. Others will chime in...we'll figure this out together.

To me it sounds like your lock actuator gear is broken (see pic below), if thats the case I would from experience have the whole mechanism replaced with a new actuator rather than going used. Better be sitting down when the Jagaur dealership quotes you a price.

BTW I did respond to your other post a month ago or so and I assume you did not like the information that I provided you with, which is the same on this thead.

YWIA, thanks for the thanks

My Honda was doing the exact same thing. joycesjag is correct, it is very likely that your door lock actuator is done for (it fixed my Honda, too). Get a whole new mechanism as joycesjag mentioned.

Seth, since its my life mission to prove all the "you can't do that'ers" or " a Jaguar, you have to take it to the dealer" type of people out there wrong. I do ALL of the work on Joyces Jag. So I just snap pictures and post them up here to help out all other DIY'ers or atleast inform owners what they are looking at when they take their vehicle in.

Plus I like to take things apart to see how they work.

I have a 2000 s type

to Joycesjag: no offense was meant towards your previous reply. And i completely understand and appreciate your knowledge. While it may be a coinsidence things happened at the same time (i will explain) I am trying to determine if something else is as fault. The following was the turn of events. I replaced my fuel pump. When i tried to start the car it would not start and the horn alarm sounded. (a security mode). I tried several times with the same result. So i came to the forum and looked for answers. There was a post that stated I should close the drivers door with the window open and push the lock to lock it from the inside while the battery is connected. Then disconnect the battery, wait 10-15 miniutes and reconnect. Then unlock the drivers door with the key from the outside. i did this and the car started. HOWEVER, immediately since i did that, when i try to use the remote it no longer works. When i try to lock with the remote, i hear a two-part sound (which sounds like something is moving and then returning to the original point). The other three doors lock and unlock immediately because the drivers door wont lock. when i lock it manually from the inside, all doors lock and remain locked. andn when i unlock from the inside the others unlock. The doors also do not auto lock when i put the car in drive mode anymore since that time either. Perhaps its a coinsidence but seems questionable. I just want to make sure that it is the actuator and not something that was screwed up with the process i followed to get the car to work. Please respond with your comments. if you still believe it is the actuator, i will purchase one. Also the clicking noise i hear is a separate noise. it is coming from the DCCM when i manually push the lock on drivers door when the door is open and remains clicking until i unlock it manually. The purpose to raise the question about the clicking is because i thought perhaps the DCCM was faulty. All other electronic parts of the DCCM seem to work properly though Thanks!

DCCM? You mean you hear clicking from the "dual climate control module"? Can anyone give clear instructions for system re-set?

The DCCM has nothing to do with the locks.

It may just be coincidence that the (pictured gear above) failed. From my time of screwing around with our rear door actuator your symptoms sound very familiar to me.

Joyces locks acted the exact same, locking then unlocking immediately after. The remote would not work nor the lock button located in the dash. The only way to lock the vehicle was manually.

I am not sure about the front actuator but if you DIY you could remove the door card (instructions in the "How To's with pics) and look for this little piece in the bottom of the door:

That would be a tell all.

It might be worth a trip to the dealer to see what they have to say (I hate to say that) but shelling out $300.00 for a new actuator plus labor is a hefty sum of money. You can find used actuators for about half that of new but its your call.

If you can put your ear to the exterior door handle and lock the doors you will hear the actuator rotate, a very slight pause then rotate again, its that gear (again pictured above).

With the little pin missing (2nd pic above) the driver door module isn't going to function correctly.

Dang Rick! You should be an instructor for highly classified military equipment. LOL! I don't know how you do it. I barely have the patience to explain how to use a can opener, but you...?

Having that info in your signature would be VERY helpful, your user name would suggest that you have a 2003 which is different in many ways.

my error, not the DCCM - im working on that too - got confused.
the clicking is coming from the electronics module inside the door to the right of the speaker. i will look for broken parts.

thank you
