DTC Code c1175, Wheel speed sensor left rear
Hello. Myname is Jon Morgan and I am a newcomer to your forum.
For the last6 months I have been the owner of a 2003, S-Type 2.5, SE Auto, 65k miles, Ilove it, it’s my first Jag and won’t be the last.
I’ve got aproblem with a DTC Code c1175, Wheel speed sensor left rear. I got a couple ofsecond hand sensors, tried a replacement, code won’t go away. Next step tryswapping left and right to eliminate sensor, same problem, so it’s not thesensor.
The car gotplugged into a Sun tester at my very good local garage, it showed a voltagedifference of just over 1 volt between the wheels with the lower voltage 9.6,against 10.7 on the right.
Do you thinkI should look more at the Reluctor ring? Having read a little more into thisbefore posting I read a couple of posts where the Reluctor Ring was at fault. Itseemed good, clean, but foolishly I didn’t give it a good inspection, it seemedclean and shiny but…?
Any suggestion please?
Many thanksin anticipation

Thanks. I've checked all the connections and they seem good. A couple of things I did fail to mention is the ABS doesn't work on that wheel, also for the first 10 mins of a drive the brakes keep snatching at that wheel as if it thinks the wheel is rotating too fast, just a very brief ****** but you can certainly feel it in the car.

Have you resolved your problem? If so, what was the fix? My 2005 S-Type 3.0 has thrown this same C1175 code (along with all of the associated warning lights on the dash being lit). I plan to clean both rear wheel speed sensors and electrical connections and have a look at the reluctor rings. I'm not convinced that will fix my issue, though....

Hi Jon.
I haven't yet had a chance to pursue it any further yet. By process of elimination I have checked things at the hub end and cant see a potential problem yet. My next point to check is where the 2 hub cables from the wheels speed sensor meet in the middle of the car, there is a connector there. I've also checked the electrical connections into the ABS system and cant see an obvious problem there. TBH I'm rather pinning my hopes on the connector.
Hope this helps, I look forward to hearing how you get on!

The problem could also be a burnt trace or failed solder point on the circuit board inside the ABS module. Some owners here in the U.S. have removed their ABS modules and sent them off for repair to fix their various ABS faults, mostly in the XK8 forum because XK8s seem to suffer ABS module failure much more frequently than S-Types do. The problem we all face, I think, is being able to properly diagnose the root cause. Unfortunately I don't have the tools or the skills to be able to absolutely nail it down....

I've cleaned both rear wheel speed sensors and reluctor rings, cleaned both rear harness electrical connectors with contact cleaner (even though they were still pristine inside), checked all associated fuses, and checked the tightness of the battery cables and ground strap just for good measure. No change. I haven't messed with the car for a week now other than to take it on a few drive cycles to see if any of the warning lights would disappear as a result of my initial efforts (they did not). So I booked the car into my preferred indie shop next Tuesday. They're going to connect the car to their AutoLogic system to see what the diagnostics show. I hope I get lucky with a quick and inexpensive fix. We'll see....
Sleet and freezing rain here today into tomorrow so my S-Type will sit and wait for better weather....

I started a thread about my S-Type's problem entitled "DSC / ABS / Cruise Not Available" on January 8th. Lots more details discussed there. You may want to read it if you haven't already. I will update it after my indie shop has an initial look at the car on Tuesday (weather permitting)....

Both Jaguars are still sleeping soundly here at home this morning. We received about five inches of sleet and snow on Friday/Saturday. My appointment at the indie shop for tomorrow may have to be rescheduled since most secondary roads remain ice-covered. But I've had great fun cruising around with ease in our AWD Subaru Outback while the vast majority of folks around here have been iced in since mid-day on Friday....

After weeks of the sun starting to shine, new battery, new sensor, countless multimeter readings and jacking the car in the air so I can get underneath it I gave up. I booked it in at a local Auto Electrical guy with a very good reputation, he found the problem a short in some wires that were starting to get worn where they pass through from the outside to the inside of the car, which he fixed for me! Result!!
Many thanks for your input people.
Very happy Jon
