Default ECU or OBD2 not talking?

Many thanks to everyone for the loads of advice, I was enlightened and terrified in almost equal quantity, and took S-Type's wise counsel and invested in an iCarsoft Scanner, but find - like my previous cheap one, - that it can’t get the ECU to talk via OBD2 port. My key/remote genius had the same problem too! Would I be right in thinking that I’ll have to rob the 4 year old grandchild's university fund to have the ECU replaced, or is there a cheaper option? I’ve heard tell of re-flashing, but every time I’ve come across that, someone gets locked up and put n the SORegister! Any ideas most welcome. I have started a new thread, but felt that most of the peculiar behaviour I’ve experienced with the car might just be attributable to the ECU. But then what would I know?

Have you inspected the fuses and junction boxes for corrosion or poor connections?

There are also earth points that become corroded, especially the one on the nearside front behind the bumper.

Also, use an ohmmeter to check there is continuity between the OBD connector interface and the PCM.

It's a long shot but are you sure your OBDII port has 12VDC power on pin 16?
This powers the readers and since you have tried two different ones this maybe something to check?
Here is the OBDII port pins;

Do you have a voltmeter? Note pin 4 is ground and I would check that too.

Is it talking to all the other modules but just not the PCM ? If so use the OBDII setting & it'll read the codes.

This will show you how to run a diagnostic scan via running the OBD-II side of the program:

iCarsoft i930 Demonstration Review Check Engine Light Land Rover Jaguar Reset P0102 - Bing video

The video shows a Land Rover diagnostic, but the Jaguar program is the same.

+1

Most years use ISO 9141 for the PCM but later ones use CAN so you may have to nudge some tools to connect on the right one.

(Some use both)

Take a look at my post here. Post 7

you might have the same issue where the socket wipers are pushed back so your scan tool isnt making electrical connection

Many thanks - and apologies for late acknowledgement but packing up house, hunting for a house in neighbouring county, stressed to the proverbials!

Your #7 was enlightening, and hugely appreciated, although the car is taking rather a backseat at present!

Many thanks for the guidance, although much of everyone's much appreciated words of wisdom are fizzing past my knowledge and ability at Mach 3 - at least! Once to current attempted house move is completed (will it ever be completed?!) I will have the time, energy and brain (ahem) capacity to attent to this and the park sensors and the flashing DSC warning!
