Default Electric intake booster fan

I saw an intake electric fan kit for sale. It was listed under mods for the STR. Does anyone out there have any knowledge about these? It says 20 more HP. I am catching up on needed maintenance from the previous owner's neglect before I jump into any performance mods but this caught my eye.???

20HP - no way!

How's it going to help at all? Snake oil I reckon.

They inherently consume more power in turning the blower than they help in producing more engine power output. Scam.

+1 to jag v8 & Mikey, tried one of these when i was 17, 23 years ago, it does not work. the theory is sound but a battery operated fan can not produce the pressure needed, thats what the supercharger and turbo are for.

Can you please dyno before and after the mod?

They make claims but it's hard to back them up without real numbers.

I think there's all sorts of dyno tests on the interweebs of these things, each demonstrating zero power gain.

Here's one:

another

Thank you all for the info. That's what I love about this forum, No BS. I thought the theory was sound. Taking power from the electrical doesn't effect the egine HP in a negative way so...... Now that I re-look at that little fan and imagine how much it could really push in relation to putting my hand out the window at 59mph (my favotite speed to step on it, it seems to step down into just the right head snapping gear/RPM to make me feel good). What was I thinking? The dyno test says it all. It sounds like the intake mod I read about most is the way to go. (90 degree intake though I often wonder if that octopus stock intake is designed to even out flow) K&M filter, polish intake for better laminar flow. At the same time I need to clean the throttle position sensor and seal it. When the obd says it is at 0, I code every 2 minutes. Seems to happen more when it's wet out. Need to read up alittle more on updated SC pully and the SC oil change has to be good. I was a hydraulic machanic for many years and not only will it break down but over time in a Non-combustion application it can still aquire sedimensts from the closed system. If bad enough it works as a light lapping compound on the componants eventually working them out of specific tolerances and then...Sorry, that's another thread.THANK YOU ALL AGAIN

No they do work but you need a bigger one, you tube gas power blower(as in leaf) super charger. That was shown on a dyno to increase hp, and by a decent amount iirc. Youde need electric start and throttle control however to operate from inside the car while driving

These things again? Just do a search on "electric superchargers" on any forum anywhere. They're an ebay joke. Please save your money for a real mod.
