Electric parking brake pad removal

Electric parking brake pad removal
I have read the service manual and the how to section on here but ...
I started my brake job at the front with the rear wheels on the ground and at one point I thought I'd need the key in the ignition to move the front wheels left/right. When I did that the warning lights lit up with more failure lights than a Christmas tree but the front caliper were already off and I couldn't step on the brake pedal.
I've disconnected the battery as it's low and may need to be replaced.
But what I did discover as I put the rear up on jack stands is that the E-brake was released. There was zero tension on the cable at each e-brake caliper but not enough slack to allow me to get the hooked cable end off.
The wear on the rear rotors is such that it's got a pretty good lip at the top so the pads wouldn't just come out. I had to use a large screwdriver to get one side out the top and then the other was just fine. It's a floating caliper on pins of two different styles which is is odd.
Should I have pushed the caliper to one side first?
This left a slight groove in the one pad on each side but it's not really an issue IMHO. I did find new, inexpensive pads but the originals aren't really worn.
New rotors are going back on but I'm concerned that I might have a problem getting the pads back in?
Is there a retraction adjustment for the opening width on this caliper? Again, though the cables are not disconnected there is slack to the lever arm so the cable is clearly not tensioning the caliper.
Thanks.

It begins on page 424 for the 203-205 STRs.
Yes, it would have been nice to have the Jaguar factory tools ...
For the rest of us you need to split the caliper to rewind it. Not a big deal. Somewhat surprisingly there's no thread locker on it?
