Default Emergency brake fault

Haven't been on the forum lately because the ride has been just fine. But, two days ago I had this rapid alarm tone going off when I turned the car off or opened the door and could not figure out for the life of me what it was. Well I finally figured out it was a fault with my emergency brake, electric. It's not working and sounds an alarm. Anyone have an idea where I start looking first? 2003 S-Type 4.3.....thanks

Try a reset first, then go from there https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...pb-reset-8750/ you could also try a hard reset.

If none of that works your power may not be high enough - usually battery going bad but could be ground or positive connections. Or even damp/water in the trunk (remove spare and look very carefully).

I did the reset and it worked, until I drove it and took my key out of the ignition, then the alarm started again. The battery is at 12.64v and is on a Shumacher battery tender type charger. Now no fault lights come on, just a rapid beeping for around 10-15 seconds. When I manually apply the EPB the dash will show parking brake/abs fault but does not stay on for any length of time.

One or more cells in the battery could be shot or failing (not holding charge) - test each cell with a hydrometer.

If it's not battery or its wires, and not damp, you could be one of the unlucky few. There are a few existing posts about failed EPB module and/or failed EPB motor.

I'm at the Ford dealer where I purchased the car for oil change and they are going to check the system. They are familiar with the problem since the Lincoln LS is much the same. Problem is though, I filled it up and the gas station this morning and along with a quick wash, and guess what.......yup.....EPB is working fine.....dang! Might be something temporarily hanging up. I'll keep you guys posted on what they find. Meanwhile thanks for all the input.

I wonder if it was a sticky cable and the water from the car wash was enough to loosen it up?

So the dealer comes back to me and says sorry, we could not get it to do what you said......dang again! So it worked the rest of the day and then it messed up. It seems to me that when I use the switch on the console it doesn't work. When I just put it in park it functions. I'll take it to the dealer when I get back from my weekend trip next week. Thanks for the input and I'll let you know what gives. Have a good one
