Smile Engine Codes

Hello everyone,

I got a couple of codes that came up. I wanted to know if anyone knew what they meant and what parts I need.

P420
P430
P460
P1111

Thanks for the help.

First of all please put your year and model type in your signature to help us to help you. You may know what you have but not all of us do.

I see that you have a 2003 S-Type. This link will give you the rundown on your codes. http://www.gusglikas.com/images/Auto...tos/P20003.PDF

P1111 just means that the smog device components have passed their tests. If you clear the codes it will switch to P1000 for a while.

P0460 is "Fuel level circuit malfunction."

P0420 and P0430 are "catalyst system efficiency below threshold. 420 is bank 1 and 430 is bank 2.

Go down to you local auto parts store and get a copy of HAYNES TECHBOOK OBD-II & ELECTRONIC ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS. It has a list of the generic codes that Jags tend to put out and it will give you test procedures to check out what those codes mean. Do the checks first before buying parts. A problem in one place may have been caused by problems elsewhere.

The Haynes is "OK" but will be less than fully accurate for our cars, whereas the FREE PDF listed gives you the ACCURATE details, specific to our cars.
