Engine knocking during startup, please HELP!!!
[:@] When i start my 2000 Jaguar S-type, 4.0, a knocking sound from the engine starts. It sounds horrible. My oil is good, but the knocking is so disappointing, especially, just 6 months ago i poured in $1500 A/C problems, Heater Coil & a bum passenger window. Can someone please help, i love the car, but my wife is tired of me putting $$$ in this vehicle, i am TOO!! Thanks

You may have a problem with the timing chain tensioners, a very common problem with the 4.0 V8 engines. They were made of plastic and will break at some point. The new replacements are made of metal as they are on the 4.2 V8 engines. Be careful, if one breaks, you could destroy the engine.

your local ford dealer has the tools to do this. but - it's an ugly job.
Have you heard of an engine needing a cam belt once or twice in its life? Well this si the same. You need to service the cam tensioners and chains once in it;s life. i just did mine, replaced all the tensioners and guide plus ONE chain. Pricey but I have faith in this motor knowing it is bulletproof for many years.
Get a dealer to look at it then decide.
