Engine Noise and going off in traffic
My jaguar s-type 2001 3.0 litre has been fantastic. Only oil and spark plug change for the past one and half years. Last week, I noticed an unusual rubbing sound from the engine. It stays on and off when my selector is in neutral or in parking position. It disappears when I shift into drive or reverse and driving is smooth. I have driven it to my mechanic twice but the noise never came. This grinding noise is tearing me apart and is now affecting smooth idle running of the engine. The engine runs well and smooth in motion but goes off in some few seconds in traffic. Since this problem started, I have been disturbed and not know what to do. I have nowhere I trust to take this problem to. I will be glad to hear from anyone who has any experience similar to this. I have checked the vacuum input and changed the two 0-rings. Situation remains the same.

Hi Vet, I have taken off the pully belt and all pully disengaged. Noise is still there. All electric motors within engine compactment tested without any fault. Noise is still coming and going at will. What confusses me most is that this car is like new when in motion outside idle state. My mechanic diagnostic system states, "gas lean in banks 1&2". I don't know what part to change.
