Default Engine Overheating

I had a coolant leak and determined that the reservoir was cracked. After replacing suddenly my engine started getting warmer than normal, but not by a lot. although 3 days my radiator blew. The leak must've been allowing pressure to release but what i cant figure out is why the pressure is building so high to begin with and what would be causing the sudden overheating. Does anyone have any thoughts on the matter. I'm replacing the radiator on thursday but would like to know what else i should be looking at or replacing.

Maybe there was/is an airlock?

after letting it sit for a couple days, i wanted to take a closer look at it to really see the damage and was baffled by the fact that suddenly my reservoir is now full. when i parked it, it was empty. Any ideas on that one?

@jagv8 that is a viable option but i dont know how i would fix that. would a system flush fix that?

Doesn't sound like an airlock after all. I'm baffled. (When I park the level in mine drops very slowly, but not far, as the engine cools.)

i hate to change the radiator without knowing the contributing cause. right now i'm just hoping that a complete system flush will do it.

With such unusual problems (rad hardly ever fails, etc) you might like to have a pro check for head gasket problem.

thanks jagv8, i will probably end up having a mechanic look at it but am trying to save a little cash and diagnose it myself. I'll post an update after i change the rad. and do a flush.
