Default engine swap / serpintine belt problem

I had engine melt down last summer, and recenly purchased used long block and installed, big job indeed but here's where i need some expert help please, this was a 2001 s type 4.0 v-8. The engine i recieved matched right up to sensors and all wiring. But the original serpintine belt wont install on the spring loaded tensioner without the tensioner wheel grinding on the block. I have diagrams showing Ive installed correctly. My tensioner has 2 nipples that go into housing, so that it can only go on 1 way. Ive tried spacing the tensioner out to avoid grinding on the tensioner wheel. This only worked temporaraly cause the belt came off and failed. Now im using longer belt to move spring tensioner from not having to be rotated so far to unstall on all the pulleys and idlers. My new engine has 2 idlers pulleys on the passenger side and the spring tensioner on the drivers side. The longer belt appears to be working. but while the engine is idling the lower idler pully next to the altinader is not in the middle of the pulley wheel. Im afraid the belt will eventully come off and fail. The pulley crosses above the crank pully and goes to the spring loaded tensioner. All brackets and accesories appear to be correctly installed. If so why am i having to use longer serp. belt. Maybe a pulley or one of the acc. pulleys are a larger size. I am sooo puzzled. Please feel free to call me i am lost so what could be wrong. 812-430-5744 thx so much for any advise, Scott

The engine numbers may have been different, so you may have a different offset crank pulley. The belt should fit if the motor was the same. Do you still have the other engine? Take the tensioner off of that one and see.

i used all my pulleys and tensioners from original engine. Today after driving approx 12 miles to work. when i got ready to go home, Car engine turned over slow due to battery being a little low after sitting for so long, Once it started the belt came off , basically back to square 1 , had to install another belt. Any ideas out there ??

i ordered a new tensioner and 1 idler pully , as soon as it come in i will see if this fixesmy problem, i will send a picture this weekend of original tensioner with belt off. To me with the 2 nipples on the tensioner it can only be mounted 1 way.
