EPB Reset
Well here it is,I recently opt to buy cross drilled rotors and ceramic pads to see if i could minimize my brake dust and horrible squeaking.I replaced the pads like i normally do, start the car up and the I set the parking brake like instructed by dash. After that I take for a spin and everything is good. I park it in my driveway and apply the parking brake and hear it engage very harshly and my parking brake fault iluminates and now it won't disengage. I want to know how do you reset the EPB if poossible or Ihave to see the joly old dealer.

Issue:
On some 2003 MY-on S-TYPE vehicles, a customer may report a concern of premature
parking brake pad wear or the brakes binding. This condition can result if the electronic
park brake (EPB) system is not re-calibrated after the removal of the rear brake calipers
to replace the brake pads.
Action:
Should a customer express concern regarding the above, refer to the calibration
procedure detailed in this bulletin.
1. Reset the EPB module:
a. Switch off the ignition.
b. Disconnect the battery for 30 seconds. For additional information, refer to STYPE
Workshop Manual Section 414-01.
c. Reconnect the battery.
2. Start the engine.
3. Firmly apply and release the footbrake five times.
4. Confirm that the message ‘NOT CALIBRATED’ or ‘APPLY FOOT AND PARK
BRAKE’ is displayed on the instrument cluster message center. This indicates that
the parking brake is in calibration mode.
5. Lightly press the footbrake pedal.
6. Apply the parking brake by using the EPB switch.
7. Release the parking brake.
8. Release the footbrake.
9. Confirm that the brake warning lamp is no longer illuminated on the instrument
pack and that the ‘NOT CALIBRATED’ message is no longer displayed in the
message center.
10. Apply and release the EPB five times to ensure no error is present.

Well I went ahead and tried it and the car feels a little sluggish and the park brake faul is still on amd beeps when the ignition is off. I tried it twice, any suggestions.

I have heard of some having to get the Electric handbrake gubbins replaced.

I just got back from dealer and they said it the parking brake motor, and maybe the module... they want $730 parking brake motor installed no module. Is their a way to realease the parking brake and not have it active until I can buy the motor, I believe the motor seized up, maybe applying a reverse voltage to motor to untighten the parking brake cable....

I know its weird.....I feel like the rear brakes are applied at all times.... the jag tech told me the car would not let itself be driven with brake on... I don't believe him i removed EPB fuses and pushed caliper pistons in to see if maybea bad caliper piston but they are good, brakes engage fine now, i guess i have to buy the EPB motor, i wonder how hard it is to change I already took both 1/2 inch screws that hold the motor in, now I need to figure out how to get the motor out without dropping anything else.....

Manual Release for Parking Brake
With the help of a Jag tech we manually released the park brake, got it in Neutral & it will now roll onto a trailer, still says Park Brake Fault. Pop off the wood grain surrounding the shifter, there is a T-shaped lever on the driver's side. Using a flat blade screwdriver, move the release lever up while you move the shifter out of park.

When you did anything with the caliper you need to disengage the EPB before even touching anything. To do that you need to put your key in and turn it to ignition II and push the EPB down to disengage it then turn the key off and pull it out while hold the EPB down. This will disengage it. Then you can do whatever you are doing to the brakes i.e. rotors pad whatever. Once you get everything down then you get into the set parking brake method listed above and it will reset it. You may have to do it a few times. I turned the car to ignition II and while I could hear the EPB engaging I turned the key off and pulled it out and it reset itself perfect. If its like what I'm thinking the situation you are in you either didnt disengage it to perform the work or may of got a damaged caliper.

EPB Reset method
I have seen several threads concerning the EPB reset procedure. In all cases the solution is to disconnect the battery for 10 mins. The issue with this is that it impacts much more than the EPB. A simpler method that I have used many times on both S-Type, S-Type R and XJR is to remove the EPB fuse which is located in the fuse box in the boot (trunk). I then wait approx 5 mins and replace it. The effect is same as disconnecting the battery without the disadvantages.

EPB Faults and Fixes
Ok, so I got my first message of a Park Brake Fault and searched the forum for answers. I was able to get it moving by simply turning off the car and waiting a minute and it reset itself. I also while searching found almost ALL the fault messages to other owners came when it was cold outside. This might be because the motor is under the car and has exposure to the elements. That being said I took it to my mechanic who only has the tech specs from Jaguar bulletins to go by. He suggested the module was bad. I picked up a module for $40.00 and they will try to recalibrate from that. However, I think it may just be a cold weather issue. I'm moving to Carolina which may just solve the whole issue. I have no dragging or brake wear so I'm reticent to mess with any of this. Thoughts????
