2004 S-TYpe,4.2l w/o Nav----does anyone know how the factory DRL system works? The low beam H/L have stopped working, both in DRL mode and switch mode.
Bulbs are OK,fuses are OK,no wiring discontinuity. Is there a separate DRL control unit in this car?(I have not been able to download the FSM yet)or is it part of the General Electronics Control unit?

I quote from the JTIS,Daytime Running Lamps,Description and Operation---"the low beam headlamps are illuminated by a Pulse Width Modulated signal for vehicles fitted with halogen headlamps(when the average voltage exceeds 14V)".
I am new to Jaguar, having run and maintained Mazda RX7s for the past 20yrs.The quantity and quality of information available in the JTIS is poor compared to the Factory Service Manuals fo RX7s.All of which can be easily.
Surely there must be proper Factory Service manuals available somewhere?

Following on from my previous post(yes I know it was a long time ago!).I did check with a local Jaguar shop and they suggested that would need up to $800 if they had to start serious trouble shooting,ie broken wire.
Thanks but no thanks.
So as I indicated another post I bought a Chinese Mongoose,a used $80 laptop and a SDD disc from e-bay.Because of the year,2004,the tool and software switches to IDS.Tool indicated code B1794,Headlamp dip beam circuit fault.
So--rechecked bulbs---found RH bulb blown(OK when checked in July),But I may have damaged it in early trouble shooting.LH bulb OK.
Checked continuity from GECM(front control unit) to LH bulb.Wire tested good.
Checked power at the passenger side fuse box(F25),and power was there.Checked for power at LH headlamp--no power. Conclusion broken wire between fusebox and head lamp--confirmed by continuity test.
After looking at the wiring harness I decided that I would probably do more damage by pulling it apart--there was no obvious damage to harness.
I decided to run a new wire from connector FH60,LF headlamp to fusebox connector FH53.Used heat shrink solder joints(expensive but worked well),1/4 in split plastic cable protector and 10 ft 18g w.I just cut the wire close to each connector and left the lod wire in the harness.
So cost of tool---$260,cost of parts $10 and my DRL and low beam head lamps work great.
The S-Type Electrical Guide worked well and was accurate,Sevice manual was not much help.
