Default Fault code P1852 issue

I have a 2003 S-Type with the 4.2L V8 with six speed automatic transmission. The vehicle has a little over 100K miles and I bought the car new. The transmission is acting erratically while driving. It seems to downshift and upshift when driving down the freeway at a constant speed. Then, just recently, when I accelerated to pass a car it started slipping and downshifting. I immediately backed off the accelerator and the transmission then re-engaged to sixth speed and the car continued on with no problem. I've had the transmission checked and found that the transmission oil is fine and at the right level. When the engine diagnostic was checked it showed a code of P 1852, Gas module. Is this an easy replacement or should I take it to a Jaguar dealer for replacement?

I cannot find P1852. Are you sure about the number?

P1582 is flight data recorder ...
Grab the free codes PDF for your car or free JTIS and look it up if interested.
Nothing to do with your problem.

Could be any of a number of things, including a failing battery or commonly an engine problem that upsets the trans. but have you changed its trans oil? Checked its level?

A standard code reader will not clear the EDR DTC 1582.
You must go to the EDR application and read/clear it from there.

Here is an explanation from the X-Type TSB.

So sorry, the code is P1582 not P1852. My mistake.

Where do I find the 'free PDF' codes or the JTIS? Not familiar with these options.

You can download the Jaguar DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) listing for your 2003 S-Type free from my MediaFire account by following this link:

For JTIS (Jaguar Technical Information System) download, follow this link to the the FAQ's:

Even with the fluid level correct has the fluid ever been changed? Who and how did they check it? It's not easy!

Have you changed the fluid and pan/filter? There is also a TCM software flash that should be checked. The ZF is pretty tuff and outside of the "Lurch" it's pretty good.

If you have not heard of the lurch just search for Jaguar and Lurch and you will find it. The guy is over the top but he did buy his car new and he does describe the different variations in great detail along with several Jaguar TSB's. Good to look at if you have never seen it. Try to see if your car falls into any of the lurch categories he describes.
