Default Fault with Electronic parking brake module, affordable home use full diagnostics tool

If I attempt to apply Parkbrake, it says cannot apply parkbrake, although can hear what may be a relay in the EPB module.

Hi,

I have a problem with my electronic parking brake locking on, which like a previous users problem but does not seem to be helped by keeping the battery voltage up (found a previous thread where the low voltage on engine start caused electronic faults, I do live in an area where my car will be affected by cold as well as moisture on warmer days but this isn't the problem yet).

The parking brake remains locked in and beeps if the car moves with these two faults.

I've tried the epb reset described on responses to similar issues and it made no difference. Have also tried reseating the fuse, removing and reinserting the cables to the epb module as well as changing the battery for a charged one.

Is the motor moving or trying to?

You might try disconnecting the cables and see if anything moves then.

Low prestart voltage is well-known to cause trouble with the EPB (along with DSC and Cruise Control), but it sounds like that is not what's happening in your case. This thread was started in response to how often the poor battery was overlooked as the root cause, but the details should still be of interest to you:

Take a look at the other non-battery fixes and maybe you'll find something that matches your situation.

I think all I can hear is the relay triggering, not the motor itself. I'll try doing that with those cables on a dry day.

Can you recommend a circuit diagram or something for the EPB system?

Is there any later than 2006?

Do you think it will be different? The vehicle was discontinued in 2007.

Possibly not; it's an 07/08 registration so probably made using the 2006 design?

I'd think it's likely, why not check it out and see if it matches up?
