Do you have the compressor valve TSB in your guide Karl?

Confirm the old one is bad before replacement. It’s not the most fun job in the world, so I’d want to be positive it had failed first.

In the HVAC guide, there’s a link to tips by Gus for replacement. Notch the bracket as he has suggested to make installation much easier.

Thanks, yes I do. It’s in the middle of post #4. There’s even a link to a how-to in the X-Type forum (same basic compressor).

I found a photo of the S type for sale on eBay I mentioned with the big wheels.
These are 19" off an XF.

My AC problem IS rpm related. When standing still and car in P and I rev it to approx. 1500-2000rpm, the AC blows cold again!

Making progress! You’ve narrowed down when the fault occurs.

In my HVAC troubleshooting guide, first make sure the DCCV is behaving (post #2) and then proceed to post #4 for inadequate cooling. Please keep in mind there’s a good possibility of multiple faults, so don’t expect one magic fix. It may be several small things in play.

I’d suggest looking for a slipping clutch at the AC compressor. Details of how to check are in the guide.

Thanks for the reply!
No, the AC Clutch is not slipping I’ve checked it yesterday!

More progress! Did you determine this with the paint marks and jumper wire? Also, did you try swapping relays?

After that, work through the rest of the suggested steps for inadequate cooling. Just to confirm, selecting manual LO doesn't make any difference, right? And you did verify the DCCV is behaving?

The problem could be as simple as low refrigerant, but I'm not positive. I can't remember how much the RPM affects cooling performance when the charge is low. You had mentioned the AC compressor had been replaced. How long ago was that? Just trying to get a feel for when the refrigerant had last been fully charged.

My mechanic (good friend of mine) said it’s not slipping. The AC was recharged approx. 7 months ago. I’m leaning toward low-gas in the system as everything else is fairy new. AC compressor 2 years, as well as the AC radiator, new DCCV, repaired module... The DCCV is behaving fine!

If the system was properly charged but is now low after only 7 months, it’s got a pretty good leak. I’d suggest a careful leak check of the entire system before starting the refill. Does your friend have a refrigerant sniffer? If you just refill the system without first identifying and repairing the leak, you’ll be in the same situation again 7 months from now.

I don’t mean this as beating up on you, but how does your friend know the clutch isn’t slipping? Is that just his hunch, or did he actually verify it with a jumper and paint marks? The root cause is probably a toss up between low refrigerant and a slipping clutch. But do you have to guess? Not really. It’s super easy to rule out the clutch for just a little bit of time and zero dollars.

I don't know how exactly he examined the AC clutch but I kind of trust him as he's one of the best and most wanted mechanics in our country for high end cars.
Some of the customers come all the way from Austria or Germany to service their Porsche or Bentley at his garage!
He is also having his hand over my other cars wity twice the cylinders as the S-type
