Default Fifty Years of Dreaming

Fifty years ago my brother & I bought a '58' 3.4 Mark II. Sadly it broke down just as we were both going into the Navy & we had to sell the Jag for parts. Always dreamed of owning another one.

Well today on my 70th birthday the wait is over! Just bought a 2007 3.0 w/British Racing Green exterior & tan interior. A real cream puff with only 52,535 miles. Still can't believe I own it. I keep going outside to make sure it's really there and then pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming.

Thanks for all the well wishes. Right now I'm trying to understand all the high tech stuff. At least I know where to put the key (Very Cool Key kinda of let a switch blade!), start the car and go thru the gears. I'm amazed at how quick and smooth it accelerates! My wife thinks I'm nuts, but what the Hell.

Congrats.

Did you check the key opens the trunk? (As you want it to if the battery goes flat. Exercise the lock every year or so.) Keyhole is there but not too obvious.

Well done.

The wife will get over it, they usually do.

If not, give her the key and walk away, works every time.

Ha ha! Good thing you didn't buy a new car. The technology is mind-boggling. Many of them don't even have a "key". Cars start with a push button so long as the wireless fob is within a certain distance (including in your pocket).

Gear shift has been replace with a rotating dial thing. Some have shift "paddles" on steering wheel. Vent louvers open and close automatically. Yikes!

I'll take one of these older S-Types any day. Enjoy the ride! It's still a beautiful car and great ride and that's all that really matters, isn't it?

Yeah I'm old school. There's something special about putting a real key in an ignition and firing up the car. As for those silly paddles & dialing your gear. Nothings beats a real gear shift.

I agree I'd rather drive and older car especially my S type. One day if we don't watch out we'll all be driving stupid little egg shape electric self driving cars. But they'll first have to pry my cold dead fingers off the steering wheel.

Do you mean the key to the Jag or the house?

Congrats on the purchase, Papasjag, I had the same reaction about 3 yrs ago when I bought mine and the wife had the same reaction too but that doesn't stop my total enjoyment owning and driving this amazing car. My only concern is that I don't do much maintenance myself anymore so there is always the risk for expensive repairs. On the flip side, I don't drive but 8 to 10K miles per year and 90% is highway driving so maybe the risk is lowered. I hope you have many years of enjoyment.

+1
I'm not at all happy with the direction driving is taking. Just too much gadgetry for my taste. If I ever buy another car it probably will be older rather than newer.

Good luck and wishing you smooth sailing in your new ride!

An 18 yr old wife: Are you trying to kill me off before I get to enjoy my Jag?

Thanks your car looks great. Yeah I'm too old to do much except keep it shining. But I figure only 5-6K miles a year. Besides the Jag costed thousands less than a new car. So even if I have to fork over a few bills I'm still way ahead and I'm driving a Jag!

OOPS.

The car was my meaning.

I did it with the key for the MK10, when her XJ12 was being worked on by me, and she "really had to go shopping", and the MK10 was ready to rumble.

Took all of 20 minutes, and then it was gone.

She returned, reckons it will go shopping more often. Reason, "its too big for the allocated spaces, so I just abandon it wherever I like, and its still there when I come back, and NOTHING is parked anywhere within striking distance".

Gotta luv a Female point of view.
