First Pics of my XJR...
Hey guys,
I've been on the forum for a long time. I've had X-Types and S-Types in the past. I've been considering the purchase of a supercharged Jag for a while.
I was torn between an STR and an XJR, but ultimately I decided on an XJR. I am a licensed used car dealer, so I started scouring the country for the right car.
Finally found it. 04 XJR. Black on black (what I wanted). Nav, everything 77k miles. Bought it sight unseen with a Manheim condition report of 4.5/5 and had it shipped to me.
I've only had the car a couple days but I really like it so far.
Here's what I've determined so far. The car had a bad steering shake when it showed up. Put it on the lift at the shop and the front end seemed tight. So I decided to balance the tires, and when the driver front went on the car it became obvious that the Pirelli P6 tire had a shifted belt. You could see it clearly. The car is going in for two new rear tires tomorrow.
Second, the cat portion of the leaper was rigged and attached with bailing wire - I kid you not. It seems like the two screws that go into the cat are missing. I am going to order a new leaper.
Floor mats are missing. Threw some generic winter mats in it for now. Will order proper ones.
Here's a couple pics:
These were taken at my brothers shop, the moment I walked up to the car after it was delivered.
Take care,
George

Gorgeous car, George. Keep us posted on how you like it. And let me know if your local tire guy wins your battle with Pirelli. I believe you have a very strong case for at least a pro-rated replacement if not a 100% replacement....
Another beautiful addition to your stable. Enjoy the car....

First you have to be the original purchaser - it is NOT transferable. (strike one for me)
Second you have to prove (with invoices) that you rotated the tires at a minimum of every 4k miles. (strike 2 since I didn't own the car).
Third you have to pay for the tires out of pocket (at $320 or so each, for 220 treadwear tires that fall apart), and then the defective tire goes back to Pirelli, and they determine if they are going to warranty and or pro-rate the tire. (strikes 3 and 4 if you will). I refuse to get stuck with the same tire again and have the possiblity of paying for it.
So I just settled on the Falkens that we discussed. They are going on tomorrow.
Take care,
George

I think that's them... Will be sure tomorrow.
I hate to say this, but when's the last time I've kept a car for 15k miles...
Tire choices are so limited in what my tire dealer refered to as the "***** size" of 255/40/19 that the XJR's run stock. (And I dont think I want to do wheels on this one).
Take care,
George

Thanks guys....
Car is getting new rear tires as we speak.
I actually really like the car so far. It's not as fast as my 911 turbo was, nor is it as smoothed and refined or as technologically advanced or comfortable as my Mercedes S class is, but there's something about it that just makes it sexy....
I need a few cosmetic things, the ashtray on the passenger door wont stay shut, couple other little things. But I'll put it together slowly...
I really am looking forward to driving the car once the tire vibration is gone.
Take care,
George

Here are my requirements:
1) I don't want the exhaust louder. It just doesn't suit the XJR's style to be barking.
2) Must maintain stock like driveablilty. I don't want some nervy as heck car that you have to drive like your mad at... Aka shifting the torque curve upwards etc.
3) Must be reliable. Won't do anything that will compromise the reliablilty of the car too much.
Let the games begin.
Thanks,
George
