Default Mystery Fluid Leak?

Hello everyone, my STR is leaking what I thought was coolant but, I remembered the coolant was orange. Its bright yellow, very clean and transparent. It's dripping from the driver side front just behind the bumper. I believe it's dripping on to or from the trans cooler lines. I'm still in the process of finding my way around this car. I appreciate any advice, opinions or thoughts. THANK YOU!

JagV8 I did a search but, my findings lead me in different directions.

Please check me because it might be transmission fluid but I just fixed this on my 2005 STR.

It's A/C system dye/oil. Your A/C compressor is leaking oil from the case seals. The compressor is pretty cheap at about $300 with no core. But I found it a SOB to change and did it different than what the instructions in the JTIS said.

I also verified that the A.C. Compressor is identical to the 2003-2006 V-8 Lincoln LS. So no problem getting the correct one. The 4.2L N/A and S/C used the same one too which further simplifies it.

Don't forget to change the dryer desiccant bag. This was new to me and I had not run across it before. It was a change from the early 1999-2002 cars that had the normal little Aluminum canister type. It comes sealed and says do not expose to air for more than 5 minutes. You get the old one out and then pop the sealed bag and install the new desiccant bag.

Here is what it looks like. Pretty cheap at about $20-$35.

Clubairth1.. that was one of the things that came up in my search and seemed to be the most logical explanation of the "mystery" fluid. I really don't think its transmission fluid because of how clean it is. I've put at least five thousand miles on this car since I've purchased it and, it still has the original pan/filter, so I don't think the transmission fluid would still be that clean.. plus it's red(probably black by now)I believe?.. it is leaking rather severely.. I just got the car back together after a minor front end collision and, it puddles about 7 to 8 inches in diameter. Thanks again I really appreciate it.

A bit rearward of there and it might just be water from the a/c. I wonder if it still could be. There's no proper drain that I know.

I moved my car from the street to the yard during the last snowfall we had. This was an attempt to keep these knuckleheads around here from hitting it while they drive like maniacs through the neighborhood. I still don't understand why some people don't slow down when there is snow on the ground. But, anyway, that's when I first noticed the leak. The best way to describe it is, it looks like someone had taken a bunch of vitamin B and then peed where my car was parked. We have a dog, so I figured it was possibly from the dog. When the snow melted I moved my car to the street and, sure enough it had leaked again. This time I was able to feel the fluid for consistency.. it was slippery, definitely not condensation dripping from the A.C.

Never heard of the "Black Death" until you mentioned it. I did a little searching on it... I really hope my compressor didn't fail yet, as I have no idea how long its been leaking but, it has definitely leaked a lot that I know of. I counted 4 different puddles measuring 7 to 8 inches in diameter. I thought I had a belt squeak ..now I'm starting to wonder if its the AC compressor seizing up.

I'd be surprised if you have enough refrigerant left for the comp to engage, then. Don't remember the oil charge, precisely, but it is on the order of 6-8 oz total system.

I wouldn't discount the xmsn, just yet. Your fluid won't be red if it is the proper stuff. It's yellow-ish, but not a bright yellow. More of a gold or bronze tint, I think. (May look yellow on white snow, though)

I'm Thinking Yes, It's A O.E.M. Battery..Not Sure How Old It Is. However, It Cleared Itself(The Faults). It Has Been Very Cold The Past Week.
