follow up on STR front strut removal
Ok for those who wish to do this themselves it is not that bad! Make sure that the car is jacked up fairly high on the front to help with the removal of the strut. I had already removed the sway bar link in trying to push the lower control arm down as far as possible in my attempt, I do not think that this has to be done. With the car jacked up and the rear wheels chocked, remove the electrical connector on the cats strut (if you have cats) and undo the 4 nuts holding the strut at the inner fender under the hood. remove the front wheel, and the torx bolt at the base of the strut, you will have to push down on the hub assembly to slide the torx bolt out, to loosen this I had to use a air impact. Now for the good part, on the lower control arm where the strut was fastened you will see that there is a eccentric cam washers at the end of the control arm at the frame. Mark the position of the cam washers for re-assembly and remove the bolt. This allows the whole hub assembly to be pushed down enough to snake the strut out in between the control arm and the tie rod, this is why the car has to be fairly high so it does not bind on the floor. Hope this will help other DIYer's. The jag looks and rides much better with the H&R lowering springs. Thanks again for the members who tried to help me with my quest, and this should benefit those who wish to do this task! Time for a well deserved couple of beers. Also do not forget to get a 4 wheel alignment. Paul P.S If you have cats you have to undo the sensor on the lower arm.
