Fuel damper problem

I own a 2001 S Type 4.0 last seven VIN is GM20522. The fuel damper, Jag part number AJ84080, leaks when the engine is cold. The fuel damper sits below the fuel rail between the third and fourth injector of the driver's bank. Jaguar tells me the part is about $40.00 but it is on back order because of the parts supplier problem. Jag informs me it will be between 2 and 12 months before the part is available. They suggested I park my car. I have contacted just about every Jag dealer worldwide without luck. Any suggestions for sourcing or fixing this part?

will they supplement your income while your car is parked? haha that is not much of a suggestion.
is this a pressure regulator? If you can unscrew it from the car and bring it to a car parts place... they might find one that fits. would be good to know the pressure it operates at but most cars of the same era run similar fuel pressures.
If it is notthe pressure regulator.. what is it for?

The fuel damper is part of the fuel rail. The fuel rail is a readily available part.
If you cannot live without your car, I suggest you change it. It will have all new injectors etc on there.
You could call Jag also and tell them you want it at cost due to the fact that you cannot get the part you need and it is not feasible to leave your car parked for a year.

Thanks for your advice. I ordered the fuel rail, specific to the VIN number as the top of the part is attached to the rail and the part was not on it.On earlier 4.0 the fuel damper wasin-line on the fuel supply line and very easy to access. Inmid 2001 Jaguar changed the location.I had all of the injectors repalced, under warranty in 2006. The leak is from the bottom of the fuel damper unit. My undersatnding is the fuel damper whcih "smooths" out the pulsations form the fuel pump and has a diaphram that has most likley has a tear or possibly a bad O ring. I have gone to an independent Jag shop but they won't touch it. The local dealerto be kind is not reliable and are quick to replaceparts related or unrelated to the problem to increase profits. Is it possible toloosen the fuel rail and see what isgoing on under the part without disconnecting the injectors?

That's the bestadvice you got? Maintenance isn't the issue, it is a faulty part. I may be new to this board and not as"skilled" in navigating around as you but at least I have a real problem and I am seeking help. Please do me a favor and keep your arrogant comments to yourself.

Crawford, please lighten up. He was kidding and I AM trying to help.
You said you ordered the fuel rail. I dont quite understand what you said.
Did you order it, receive it and found that the damper wasnt on it? Or did you order it and you haven't received it yet.
I am not a parts guy so I couldn't tell what should or shouldnt be on there. I have
to work tomorrow so I will look up what you need. I haveyour vin.
I do advise against taking apart the damper. Personally I have not replaced just the damper. Only the fuel rail and
every one ive replaced, 2000-2002 have all had the damper on there.
I will repost tomorrow.

A few ideas that may or may not work. If the part has fitting on both ends, maybe you can bypass it for now. Not sure if this is unhealthy for the vehicle though.
Also, if the vehicle is under warranty, you may have some legal rights under the "Lemon Law" if you have such a law in your state.
Mostly though, I would have some real concerns if there is a fuel leak which could be hazardous.
By the way, you are in great hands with Factory Jaguar Tech!

I apologize and will go online and do so. I am new to this board and I didn't realize that I only have to respond once.
Long story short, when I bought the car used from the local dealer a few years ago I had several problems which required me to take the car back to the dealer within days. They replaced the battery, fuel filter, fuel pump, throttle body, injectors and driver's bank ignition coils. Then told me it was my fault because I put bad gas in it. I guess the other 1,000 people who bought gas at COSTCO on the same day had the same issue. It was the only fuel I had bought since owning the car. My lawyer had to intervene.
Everything was fine until last August when the radiator fluid reserve failed and my car briefly over heated. I had the issue repaired. In November I could smell gas after I started the car. The next morning I started the car and found the leak on the driver's side fuel rail between two of the injectors from a round object that is attached under the rail. The gas leaks form the underside of the object but stops after the car is warmed up. The dealer identified it as a fuel damper P/N AJ84080. The good news is the part is $40.00 and the bad news is it cannot be sourced because Jaguar does not have a supplier and has not contracted with a new one. I have E-mailed every Jag dealer and parts supplier without success.
Here is where it gets interesting, I bit the bullet and went back to the dealer. The dealer noted that there were plastic ties on the last two injectors closest to the firewall. They accused me of tampering with the fuel system and refused to service my car. The Master Technician who made the initial repair died last year. Now I am wondering what they did and if they "jerry rigged" the repair. I went to an independent shop and ordered a fuel rail specific to the VIN and it does not have the fuel damper attached.
I am at a loss. The check engine light does not come on and I have not noticed any change in performance or fuel mileage. I have been considering plugging the bottom to stop the leak but I don't know what the effect will be. Any help is much appreciated.
