I sent out certified letters today to Jaguar NA, the Better Business Bureau, and NHTSA. Maybe that will get some attention. I also ordered a used tank from LKQ auto salvage.

How much did they charge you for the tank?

Does it come with both fuel pumps or just the tank?

The tank cost $200 dollars. I didn't ask if it came with the pumps. They are shipping it in from Dallas. So, they are not even sure if the tank is the screw on ring or the ring with the clamp. I will check it out when they get it in.

good luck to you ! lucky your car is not an R model or you will spend alot money and time to look for an used one. its hard to come by now days. the STR has different fuel pumps and wiring system then the regular S type model. I have to locate a correct version from out of state for $800 (whole assembly with 2 fuel pumps).

Good! That was a worthwhile repair. I bet it stays fixed as I also had the tank in my car replaced years ago. No problems since.

Default 2005 jag S type

I found this website trying diagnose the raw fuel smell in the back seat of my wifes 2005 S type. Called Jag corporate in NJ, they said recall had already been carried out. The person we bought the car from said they had moved locations in 2006. I am starting the process of getting a solution......

Jaguar NA will not Help with this defective tank. I tried for months. It was a waste of time.

Default Notify the NHTSA

There seem to be many many owners with this problem that has been "fixed" but subsequently returns. If everyone with this problem logged onto the NHTSA web site and filed a complaint it might get their attention.
Everyday we hear about massive recalls on other makes of vehicles with problems far less hazardous than this leaking tank issue.

My 2005 S-Type's fuel tank was replaced under the recall nearly two years before we purchased the car in December 2008. No fuel-leaking issues during our ownership and knocking on wood to stay that way....

It appears that Jaguar has recently been willing to assist some owners with this issue but not willing to assist others. That may depend upon the owner's ability to document the issue and willingness to go to battle and remain tenacious throughout the process. Keep us posted how your specific issue gets resolved....

Well, I just had Jaguar St. Louis do a diagnosis on the "odor of fuel" in the rear seat. They can fix it for $7600. The car has a trade in value of 3-35k in the Kelly book.........Dang, my wife is not going to be happy about this!

Get a used tank from a junk yard and have an indy install.

Stay away from Jaguar...

Thanks guys, that was my intention all along. I used the Jag dealers parts quote to find the parts i would need, and going to get them on ebay.
I have a local guy in my town that is a jaguar mechanic, I think he can do it.

Regards,
Dan

Also, when searching for parts look at SNG Barratt: SNG Barratt - The Ultimate Jaguar Parts Specialist

OBTW, I have no connections with them, I have just had good luck finding the correct parts.

Default Thanks again!

Thanks for the tip on part sources, I think I have most of the parts sourced from various vendors. Between Barranett and Jagbits we are well covered!
Thanks,
Daniel Maloney

Default fuel tank- CONTINUED

Well it seems that the tank that I purchased sight unseen and the fuel pump caps are not compatible......I have the original split cap design, and new tank is like the one currently in Ellens Jag. Anyone have ideas on where to the split caps for the original style tank?
BTW-Jag dealer said the recall had been done to this vehicle, I don't know why it would use the split caps vs the solid ones.

Greetings all,

Just checking in to report that the tank issue is resolved.

270 $ in parts

As opposed to $7600 at a Jag dealer........
