Default Fun and NOT a fluke (1/4 mile @ 109 mph)

The last couple times I raced I was surprised to cross the 1/4 traps at 109+ mph.

Twice at Cecil County:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...tonight-63377/
Twice at Capitol Raceway: (attachment 1 and 2)
The air temps listed on time slips are incorrect; it actually was in the 50's

Yesterday at Capitol Raceway's Foot Brake Race (Winner Takes all $1500.00)
I finished in the top third of 150+ racers. I was lucky and earned a first-round bye since I had the best reaction time (R/T) of 0.002 (attachment 2). The racer who beat me had his best race of the day with a dial in of 9.110 seconds and actually ran 9.115 seconds...WOW! I lost by breaking-out (going to quickly) by 0.024 seconds. (attachment 3)

very nice! It sucks to break out, but that would have been a hard time to beat!

How is it off the line? I would imagine hard to get much of a launch.

I took about a half second off the TR8 with the addition of a LSD. It's best is a 13.60 at 100mph. It's still hard to get a consistant launch with the street tires and 5spd stick.

Yeah, breakout sucks. But sleeping on the line is more embarassing IMO. No fun way to lose.

My STR is not difficult to launch when the track is prepped properly. When the track is prepped, I have consistent 1.9 to 2.0 second 60 foot times.

Do you have any vids or pics of your TR8? I'd love to see them. Your 1/4 mile of 13.6 @ 100 mph is impressive. How difficult was the LSD to install? I used to race BMW 540 6-speed stick cars and yes consistency is a magic trick.

In car 1/4 mile run. Boged it off the line this time. Sometimes that and sometimes blows the tires off. Once in a while I get it just right.

I put a Quaife in the stock rear. Wasn't bad except you can't buy the shims anymore. Triumph used a modified rear from a Rover SD1. I have gears from a late TR7 which are 3.45. Stock TR8 had 3.08 in them. Other than that similar to a GM/Camaro to work on.

Beautiful and awe inspiring 1320racer! Now do you believe me when I claimed my STR was likely doing a 12.7 1/4 @ 110+ mph? Wonder if your improving times are now a combination of your excellent reaction times and the Jags adaptive learning? Pop on the 3 lb. pulley and Mafioso intake elbow bro...12.7 1/4? Tomorrow the EGR tube to exhaust manifold goes on, hard re-set, then off to the dyno down the road.

Reaction time has nothing to do with the ET. You could sit there for 10 seconds. The timer starts and stops when the beam of light is broken at each end.

So when the light turns green you can sit there as long as you want? 1320racer jumped off the line with great reflexes when the light turned green.

Bodyman:

Your TR8 (with a V8) sounds incredible! I followed your videos and found you auto crossing too. WOW!

Thanks 1320. It's a built 4.0 Rover. The original was a low compression 3.5 basically same as in a Rover sedan. My MGB is a much better weapon at the autocross....more like a big go-cart. The V8 sounds neat but all the power tends to upset the handling...harder to get a smooth run.

bfsgross, Yes you want to leave as early as possible, without fouling, when racing another car. I was only saying the reaction time doesn't effect the elapsed time since the timer doesn't start until the car actually leaves.

Thanks Bodyman. I was referring to 1320's ability to come off the brake and operate the gas in a manner to obtain the lowest time possible down the 1/4. I've got to get to a track and experience this. Always street raced, but never did it at the track.
