Default Gas tank leak

My gas tank is leaking at the retaining rings on both the right and left side of my car. It pours gas onto the ground when I fill the car full at the gas station. The service manager said the left opening passed the go/no-go gauge. The right side did not. He said the opening for the fuel pump is oval shaped. Dealer replaced both seals and retaining rings. The left side has the biggest leak approx. 1.5 gallons when filling up. The right spills about a cup. It has, of course, evap leak codes. Dealer wants $6,000.00 for a new tank, not including labor!!!!!Asanine!! The service manager had some spare seals at home. They were supposed to be more pliable, but they were thinner than the original, so they doubled both seals on both sides. Well, it STILL LEAKS. I'm thinking about putting some silicon under the seal tomorrow. Anyone have another fixes for this? Any suggestions appreciated.

I also thought these cars had a recall on the fuel system. The recall on this car obviously did not fix the problem. Is this something jaguar should take care of.

PS- I just spent $500 at the dealership to have leak fixed.

So your vehicle did indeed get the gas tank replaced under the 2005 model-year R176D recall? If so, when was it done? Mine was done in February 2007 at just over 11,000 miles which was nearly two years before we purchased the car. No fuel leaks (yet)....

I would pin that service manager against the wall and insist on some assistance from Jaguar on a well-known design flaw. You have nothing to lose....

I also have a 2005 but it's the STR model and the fuel tank was replaced in 2007 too. Never a problem since then. It was done before I got the car.

Find out if your car has had it done or not. The gas tank was the one and only recall on the 2005 models.

We have heard there is a 10 year limitation on the recall so I would push for the repair to be done on the dealers dime.

Don't know if you have the skills but several people have replaced the gas tank seals using a cheap home made tool themselves.

Sometimes getting it fixed is more important than being right.

The service manager said, "the recall had been completed in 2007". My tank has the retaining ring and a clamp. The retaining ring does not screw on. Im assuming that the tank was not replaced, just inspected.

Im going to put some silicon on the seals now.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get jaguar to cover this repair. Jaguar USA is no help. The service manager at the dealership told me the only fix is to get a new tank. Since the original tank is no longer manufactured, you must purchase the latest tank from jaguar. He said the tank replacement would cost $9,000, since there are 19 extra parts to retrofit the new tank in my 2005 S-Type.

After so many years I would regard it as a non-covered failure.

Get a tank from a wrecker. Any shop can install it if you don't DIY, don't use the franchise (aka dealer).
