Default Gear changes.

Given an engine at normal operating temp and everything being equal does anybody know roughly at what road speeds/rpm the 6 speed ZF box should change up?
I've yet to experience 6th gear, though I rarely drive the car and don't think I've had it above 50mph.

ZF state it learns your driving style (a lot, in some cases!). Also, the speeds may be different depending on which engine you have and which software version is in the modules (TCM & PCM, at least).

It will also vary with how warmed-up it is. And so on.

Was that an echo JagV8 ? LOL
As my wife is the usual driver it's possibly learnt her style and mine doesn't fit with it. Next time 'll try to push it past 50.

Sorry, broadband hiccup.
50 does seem rather slow LOL

You may have to calculate engine revs / gear ratios to be sure what gear it's in. Or use the J-gate and as you move it down see if the revs step up. If they do then you weren't already in the new gear you're now in.

I understand the ZF 6HP26 is reluctant to go as far as 6th. if "sport" mode is selected. Worth a check, cost you nothing. Learned driver adaptive shifting is getting commonplace nowadays, esp. with the french motors. Renault has had it quite a while. I use my revcounter to show changes as it's very difficult indeed to tell when this box is shifting. The needle has a sudden little dip on an upshift. I watch it a lot, being a "hypermiler" which means I work WITH the engine and autobox strategies to save fuel. Currently better than 35mpgUK urban on mine.

Yes the tacho is the way to tell the changes. You should teach my wife a thing or two she is doing well if she gets 25mpg but her driving isn't the most economical. She struggles to get 30mpg out of our Volvo and I can manage nearer 40 without too much hassle. Women drivers!
