Default Gear lever trim removal.

OK so I did a search and found some info on getting the center stack out. First step would be removing the wood trim around the gear lever. The manual is rather vauge in it's exact removal procedure. There appears to be some sort of retaining tabs. How do they release? Just pry it up or what? I don't want to damage it since it looks to be a $300 piece of plastic.

It's actually aluminum backed wood.

Open the ashtray. Slide your fingers over the front edge, pull up and towards you. Once the front two clips release, grab it on the sides mid way and then pop up the other two clips.

This may help more than the factory manual for removing the center stack.

Take care,

George

Thanks again George. I never would have thought it was real wood since it looks so perfect and glossy. Those instructions are much better.

Not sure how far I have to dig to get the Restraint Control Module out but it's suposed to be under the console somewhere. Typically they are towards the front. I fixed a Mustang years ago and that's where it was.

The outfit I used before to reset the modules says no problem with one out of a Jag. They also do seatbelts now for 60 bucks a piece which is good to know. I spent $250 wholesale for two pretensioners on a Pontiac about a year ago.

Once you pull out the center stack, look at the ashtray. At the two outer edges you will see two little plugs that cover two philips head screws. Pry the covers off, pull the two screws put, and then pull out the ashtray, open it and pull up and then towards you and you will see it. Follow the yellow tape .

Take care,

George
