Default gear oil for rear end/ power steering

I have seen different topics on gear oil.....and for power steering...I read my manual and it recommends dextron lll but is an additive necessary? If so, what type? Also gear oil, what is recommended? I seen someone suggest Amsoil 75w-140. Can I use Amsoil sae 250? While on a parts subject, I need bushing for the rear suspension, Where do i get those as well. Thanks

I used RP in my rear end around 5k miles ago. It took a bit less than two bottles. I forget what viscosity I used...

I used the castrol 75w140 gear which meets jag spec for the rear end.

The rear diff is an open diff unit and very simple internally. Any good clean oil close to 75w140 should do it.

If the manual says "use an additive" then I would use an additive. If it doesn't say "use an additive" then I won't.

If it says Dex III then Dex III (or higher spec) is what it gets.

Bushes can probably be found a RockAuto Parts Catalog or Discount Auto Parts Online -- PartsGeek.com - Domestic & Import Auto Parts Warehouse

The P/S additive is to get rid of the squeak. If your car is not making noise you don't need the additive. It also is available from Ford because the Lincoln LS has the same steering system and squeak.

And "the manual" needs to include TSBs, changes to the workshop data (e.g. TOPIx) and I like to take notice of what jag techs with a great track record tell us.
