Can I use a gear shift box and lever from a 2000 S type 3.0 to a 4.0 as the gear shift lever has broken off and is stuck in the gear shift box.

Almost for sure the same. I'd worry what got broken and why. Are you parking without putting the park brake on before letting up the foot brake as that's a known cause of breakage.

 

Both cars use the Ford 5R55N gearbox and the selector lever assys are the same.
