Gear Shift intermittence
Hello,
I have a 2005 Jaguar S-Type, and I am having issues, When the gear shift indicator light on the J gate does not illuminate and the gear shift is in park, my jaguar will not shift out of park. When that happens and i play with the sports shift at the side of the gear shift it will sometimes illuminate the light and let me shift out of park. We have changed the break switch and are still having this problem.
Help and comments are greatly appreciated.

You may be able to adjust the J gate lever by removing the center console for access. It sounds to me like its just out of adjustment. There is a cable on the passenger side of the gate that runs don to the transmission, and there are 2 nuts centering the cable on a bracket, loosen and tightened the nuts to move the cable in the desired direction.

Thanks
My next questions is...How do i remove the center console as to not damage it. Also if the transmission is in neutral and the neutral indicator light goes off on the gear shift console. when the sports switch is turned on and off several times the neutral light then comes on on the gear shift. Why does this happen?

The console is easy, the wood trim around the J gate pops off as it is held on with clips. then to removed the arm rest console "cubby" it is held by two screws, then it pops up and out. You then can pop up the leather piece that goes around the center console by J gate, and slide it back from the dash once its poped up.
Im not sure why its acting like it is when you are pressing the sport button.
