Gearbox error.

Gearbox error.
Hullo All, I hope some one can throw a little light on my intermittent problems.
Car-2003 S Type R. 4.2L supercharged. no mods.
Number one. When driving at any speed, I get a "Gearbox error" message on the dash when I "kick down" on the throttle.
I think the car goes into limp home mode (stuck in one gear)
Stop car, turn off ignition, turn on ignition, start engine, error has cleared, the car runs normally.
Number two. Some times when I start the car I get a "restricted performance" error message on the dash, car starts OK and runs with what appears to be "restricted performance" stop car, turn ignition off/on and start engine, error cleared. Car runs normally.
I understand the electrics on these model can be a little "queer" so I checked the charging system, working well (14.6v) I fitted a new battery 2 weeks ago, and checked all the terminals/plugs I could access. Any ideas gang?
Apart from the above, the car runs very well, great fuel economy, smooth engine response and throttle, lots of power etc, I should add that when using the gearbox manually I have no gearbox errors. just the occasional error, very intermittent.

For the restricted performance issue. Have you a code reader?...Does your check engine light come on when the car goes into restricted performance. Perhaps a cleaning of the throttle body and electrical connectors will help.
I had the same issue right after purchasing the 05' version that I have. Went thru seven cut-off's in one hour once when it was raining. The next day me and my father became semi-jag mechanics and took apart the throttle body and everything connected to it. Sprayed them down with throttle cleaner, electrical cleaner for the connectors and sensor cleaner for the MAF. let things dry and retaped everything with black tape so no moisture would get to anything. That was about 6,000 miles ago. No problems since in that area

Hullo Sumrfun thanks for the quick reply, The check engine light has never lit up at all. From what I can read on the forum it al points to a dirty throttle body?
I have downloaded a very comprehensive detailed instruction on how to do this, so its time to get the hands dirty I think!
Its worth a shot.

Pull the codes. If you have a P0741 you need to replace your torque converter. If you don't clear these codes and have three in a row the car will go into limp mode.
The torque converter fail is prevalent in 03 STR and if it hasn't been replaced it may very well be the source of your problem.
When the TC is replaced, all new fluid, sleeve connector, front seal (use the jaguar seal not the common seal) and pan with new bolts.
This advice is worth exactly what ya paid for it...
