Default gearbox fault

I have a 3.0 v6 1999 model s type. I parked up at a friends house and when I wanted to set off again I could not select drive, reverse or anything. Does anyone know what it may be.
Thankyou all in advance.

Stretched shifter cable, failed interlock microswitch, parked on incline without first applying handbrake. Some searching and reading ahead for you.

+1 to JagV8 - my guess would be the shifter block (plastic) snapped.

This happened to me you'll need to take apart the center console and basically remove everything I found a nut on a pin underneath the shifter backed off and a spring and small ball fell down I put everything back together with a little locktite and it's worked fine since
