Default gearbox fault

Ok, so I have read all of the threads regarding the gearbox fault, and a lot of them are old, so I am posting a new question.

I have a 2003 S-type 3.0, has 105,000 miles. I have had it almost 2 years with no problems except O2 sensors. I started having problems with what I thought was bad gas, was running ruff. Happened to have the water in the trunk thing, thanks to this forum I convinced my husband to look there, then the battery went dead. Have sealed the truck, replaced battery, and then the gearbox fault came on. He changed the transmission fluid. When the car heats up, the fault comes back on. Most of the posts here talk about the car not shifting, or only going about 10 miles per hour, but my car shifts fine. I did however, notice that it will occur when going up an incline and the car is going to shift down, that the light will come on. I have a slight lurch, it doesn't bother me anymore, but was wondering if there were any other options to try before replacing gearbox. Would appreciate any and all replies.

Sounds more like a torque converter issue. What fault codes are present? Was the fluid level checked properly?

Default gearbox fault

The last code that it had was P1000. After the gearbox fault came back on again, there wasn't a code. And yes I feel that he checked the fluid appropriately, he has plenty of mechanic experience, although it isn't what he enjoys to do. So does the torque converter issue mean new tranny?

There are codes but you may need to have a dealer pull them.

P1000 says the codes were recently cleared. This will turn to P1111 after all the readiness monitors are set. This is only needed if the car will be emission checked.

The torque converter is separate from the transmission; but I would be sure before replacing anything.

Thanks for all of your knowledge, wanted to give update. Since I have last posted, I have not had anymore issues with the gearbox fault coming back on. Maybe it needed time to clear after the transmission fluid change. Just guessing, but glad it hasn't come back. I love my car and was not wanting to have to sell it. This forum is great and I appreciate the quick responses that you guys give.
