Gearbox Fault code issue.
hi all.
i have a "gearbox warning light" hich comes on no and again, usually when the wife is driving the car.
I have had this looked at " no issues" £500 later .
It could be computer related.nks all
Its not worth spenind serious cash on this for a electrical experienced mechanic,
so does anyone know how i can manually removed the dashboard warning light, " gearbox fault" - can i take out a fuse etc?
i need an easy life from the wife, she wont have it that i have spent £500 and " nothing is wrong" -
id really appreciate any adivce.
Or if i cannot remove it perminately, is it poss to remove it short term, for example just before she drives it?
thanks all
Jeff

RE: Gearbox Fault code issue.
I dont really ant to waste cash taking my Jag to Dealer ( ******* ), who will charge pathetic amounts of cash.
if anyone else has the same issue, and you need fault codes read, i would try to find a mechanic with a jag fault code reader, ( many men around) , the reason being this will save you a lot of money.
A few years ago for example, i had a dodgy gearbox, which a jaguar "dealer mechanic" said " he couldnt fix and they had to replace the gearbox" -
i took the jag to a serious jag specialist in the UK, called Bill Knightley Transmissions, this guy knows gearboxes. Basically he rebuit a jag gearbox for £1000.00, hich is still going 5 years later with no problems.
The jag dealer wanted £4000.00 for a gearbox...
wooo
moral of the story = dont rely on jag dealers as a main scource on a jag!

RE: Gearbox Fault code issue.
My 3l V6 has the gearbox fault warning when in normal drive mode but it goes off if I switch to sport mode ????
I'm assuming it's an electrical fault externally. A mechanic friend of mine checked out the box on the ramp and noticed what looks like a drain plug and level plug on the box. I was under the impression that the box was sealed. 2000-2001 V6 petrol. Can the oil be changed ?
