Thanks for the additional information. I will also stay with Mercon SP assuming it remains available throughout the ownership period of our two Jaguars. It meets the required Shell M1375.4 ATF specs. ZF 6HP26 owners who decide to try Mercon LV should verify that it meets those specs as well....

I helped fellow forum member George A. change out his trans fluid/filter on his 08 LR. We used Mercon SP.

Drove great after the change and still does....

For my ZF 6HP26 I order a genuine ZF filter from FCP Euro ( ~$115.00 ) and then use Ford Mercon SP fluid ( Amazon $90 for 12 quarts. ) that is specified for ZF 6HP26 transmissions. I have 150K on Mercon SP in a ZF 6HP26 with no issues. Filter and fluid changed every 50K.
According to Ford Mercon LV has replaced SP. I've just put LV in my wife's BMW 6HP26, so far no issues and the shifts are crisp.
I am about to order parts to service my ZF on my 03 STR and I'm interested in the Mercon SP or LV. Is this something I could use? Any links you could graciously provide? TIA.

In my opinion use the Mercon SP, it's what I have always used . It meets the required Shell M1375.4 ATF specs that LG6 meets and is required by ZF in an 6HP26 transmission. It's your transmission so you need to be happy with the fluid specs.
If you search this forum you will find lots of differing opinions on the Mercon SP and LG6 debates.

I think we now have enough experience to say the Mercon will work fine.
I used Lifeguard fluid the first time but will use Mercon next time.

No one has mentioned it but the ZF fluid had an additive (supposedly anyway) to help with "Whoop" sound when shifting. Does anyone know if the Mercon SP or LV has this?

I've seen no mention of any anti-squawk additive in Mercon SP. But what I do know is that since switching both of our Jaguars to it via two ZF drain-and-fills each, there has been no further ZF squawking from either of them....

My guess is that when your ZF 6HP26 develops the squawk, your ATF's friction modifiers are probably worn out (or worse, cooked). Most folks who change their ATF at that time report that their squawk magically disappears immediately after a drain-and-fill. Ours always did....
