Get a Load of This....(TCM Problems?)
Took my '03 S-Type in to do 2 TSB's....basically the ECM/TCM reprogram and drive cycle. Should take no more than an hour and a half...THREE DAYS LATER...finally found out they were having a problem...when software loaded..it fully loaded...but screen flashed and then error right at end...then blew a fuse...believe it was the one w/ J-gate...now vehicle will not communicate with motor...stuck in third. Is it possible they fried my TCM?? They have never experienced anything like this before...they do not know how to proceed....I'm suggesting a new TCM...any thoughts?
Car was absolutely fine...aside from the nuisances I was trying to alleviate!

I had the ZF Adaptations Drive Cycle TSB applied yesterday to my wife's 2006 XK8 to correct harsh 1-2 shift issues she has been reporting for the past five or six weeks. It went exactly according to the TSB document with no issues and hopefully fixed the problem. This was done at a well-respected Jaguar dealership....
Was your work done at a Jaguar dealership or an indy shop? If it was done at an indy shop, what system did they use? What is their current plan to resolve your issue?

It wasn't a dealer....it's a place that caters to imports...small town...a large amount of import vehicles...supposedly clients come from over 2 hours away since this is the closest service center. Recommended by several close friends. I am sure he will make it right...just torqued that basically it went in fine and now not drivable. Will definitely keep you posted...

I considered an indy to do our ZF Adaptations Drive Cycle TSB, but ultimately decided against them because of their admitted inexperience in doing this procedure. Your unfortunate story makes me believe that I made the right decision....
Keep us posted. And stay on them. They owe you to make it right....

Went in and spoke with technician/owner doing the reprogramming. Admits the TCM is bad....not necessarily due to the software load- says maybe there was something wrong with it all along...supposedly he spoke with a Jag Tech and says he's heard of it happening to others...I am not sure I believe that entirely considering it was just fine three days ago whennInbrought it in! Next plan of action I guess is to now find a place to either repair the module or completly replace it....at his cost. Does anyone know of a reputable company who either repairs or sells TCM's.

I worked at the dealer years ago and we were instructed by Jaguar Tech Line to use a battery charger to ensure that the battery NEVER went below the minimum required for the modules (I would guess in the upper 11 volt area).
If the configuration or flash programming failed and it was determined that the fault was a low voltage situation, Jaguar would NOT pay for subsequent damage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(it would be on the Dealer or Tech)
I would guess that it might be the cause of your problems but that is just a guess.
READ AND FOLLOW TSB 1-186.
It constantly reminds to ensure the battery is FULLY CHARGED (I prefer a battery charger while the procedure is carried out)

UPDATE....they finally gave up on trying to mess with the TCM and admitted to screwing it up....so the search was on for a new module. no way were they about to oay for a brand new OEM AT $2000. A few places wanted to sell the entire transmission! Finally one agreed on just the module....so now they will register it to the vehicle and program it (if not done already) and install it. Hopefully all that is left then is to do the drive cycle and after three weeks I will finally get my car back! My fingers are crossed!

Well, just to add yet another piece of info...
I took my 2005 STR to the Vancouver dealer about a year ago to have the tranny software re-flashed. He said it would be about an hour and a half.
However, when I arrived at the Dealer's place of work, he introduced me to one of his techs who had just returned from a Jag course in the UK, where he had been warned that occasionally the procedure would sometimes go all wrong and cause irreversible damage to the tranny. Replacement cost would be the responsibility of the owner, maybe $4000. No mention of the interesting fact above that the battery had to be in good shape.
So, guess what? For the sake of a slight lurch, which had already improved after a fluid/sleeve/filter change, I said "never mind". This is the first time I have heard of such a disaster actually happening.

Hahaha! Now get this...new module arrived..programmed out of vehicle- all good... Paired up to VIN...when trying to communicate in the slot that one locked up! Now he purchased an "autologic" diagnostic software program with the latest whatever...he is calling jag tech in UK to help get an unlock code?? My gosh this is like trying to launch the space shuttle!!

THREE WEEKS LATER AND.....
It finally has been successfully completed. Here was the issue.
Apparently there is a software glitch with the Jaguar software with the IDS platform. This was verified by contacting Jag in UK. There is a VIN range that when loaded actually loads the incorrect software version.....so it locks up the module and renders it inoperative. This was discovered after the second reprogramming. Third times a charm!
Now that this is done let's just hope I don't discover any new gremlins!
Thanks for all the comments.

When my transmission was rebuilt last summer, the TCM wouldn't find the tranny anymore. It was $1600 for a new TCM. Since it wasn't in the original invoice, they split the cost with me so I only paid $800. But considering it detected the presence of a transmission before they "fixed" it, after reading this I think maybe they should've paid for the whole module themselves.
