Hi Guys,
Sorry to be bumping an old thread but figure I'll ask it here.
So global close is an option available in the computer that by default is apparently disabled and can be changed by the dealer.
Is this done through an interface via the OBD-II port? (I know it's not an OBD scanner that does the programming)
What is the common name around the shop for the type or brand of 'scanner' that interfaces with the port that gives you ability to program these types of options on the car?
Assuming you have the necessary 'scanner', is it straight forward from there, just finding 'global close' on a list and change its parameter? Or will I need supplemental information from Jaguar to even identify the parameter?
I'm just trying to figure out how jaguar specific this might be, because I want to ask a buddy (runs an exotic and high-end sales and service shop) if it's something he can do for me. But before I trouble him with it, I would like to have at least a basic grasp of what it is I'm looking for.
Thanks guys,

I thought it was enabled by default. Maybe some are and others aren't (depending on market or something).
The specialist tools go by several names. Yes they connect via the OBD socket on modern cars (some have extra sockets but ignore those). The tools have very very different menus etc and seem to refuse to standardise on terminology so no single way of explaining where to go will work for any other tool - other than the general idea, something like "find car settings ...".
I suspect some tools won't even be able to handle a Jag just as some won't handle a BMW or a Ford or a well you get the idea.
I think there are 2 global closes: via the fob and via the key. I suspect it's just one setting but don't know for sure.
I don't see why a jag franchise would charge much to enable it. It'll be far less time and effort than a reflash for the PCM or TCM.

Thanks for info @ jagV8,
But can you, or anyone else, throw out some common names for the type of interface-job/scanner used around the shop for this sort of programming?
This isn't programming the cars ECM or TCM, but rather... 'convenience and vehicle preferences programming'? Just want to have a general term for this sort of setup on vehicles electronics so I appear a bit more informed when I do ask.

We hooked my 2005 s type up to the obd .. We found the global windows up in the "driver door mode" select keys and security. You can choose right there to activate global closing . the dealer doesn't activate do to child safety issues . couldn't find the folding mirrors but that may not be available in my model jag. I have read its in there though
