Depends on the year and engine combination...
For the 2003+ Unless you have the service history, I would strongly consider a $100 DCCV (dual climate control value) $125 a coolant overflow tank and an alignment to the new updated Jaguar specs to avoid inner tire wear. Those are common failures...

Ok, all things mentioned above and.........
Pic 1:
-Leather rear seat looks like it had a child saftey seat in it for awhile (wrinkles on back rest)
-The teather anchor between rear headrest looks broken ($50.00 ea.)
-The trim pillar looks like theres a gap of some sort, should be flush with headliner
Pic 2:
-No heated seats (being in Fl. who cares).
Pic 3:
-Could be the picture, but the wood veneer above the glovebox looks like is has the common issue of cracking (expensive fix).
Pic 4:
-Looks clean.
Pic 5:
-Hood repaint? Looks orange peeled to me.
Pic 6 and 7:
-Hood or bumper cover WAY misaligned
Pic 8:
-SMOKER! Notice Marlboro pack in the door lower left corner.
Pic 9 and 10:
-Looks clean enough
-Be sure to check that AC blows icy cold and heat is hot, on both sides of passenger compartment.
-Perform the IMT O-Ring check (very easy) look here:https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ck-pics-49214/
-Make sure ALL windows go up and down correctly.
-Make sure ALL door locks work correctly, physically lock vehicle and check all four doors.
-Look for oil leaks under vehicle. Take a flashlite and with hood open check for fluid leaks, and look at the belly pan also for leaks.
Stop off at any big box store and "rent" a OBDII scanner reader, they charge a deposit but fully refund upon return. Check the vehicle for codes. It should NOT have a P1000 you are looking for a P1111.
The BIG question, are you a DIY type that can handle problems that pop up?
From reading the ad, I would start around $4,600.00 and go from there.
Good Luck and let us know!

Check that it has at least 2 keys/FOB'Sand that both work.Keys start car and open boot and both FOB's lock/unlock car. Discount $300-$400 if not.
Check if either headlight has the "Brutal Fix" and if not whether they need it. Not expensive but if lights are broken on the cleanest S-Type in America you have another bargaining point.

Living in Miami myself....i have seen lots of "clean" cars that end up being repaired salvage title cars; especially in the Hialeah area. I have sincerely seen my fair share. Now, this might not be the case for this listing but I'm always suspicious and I guess you have to be when you are buying a used car..haha
When you pop open the hood, make sure that all the bolts on the hinges that connects to the hood were not re-torched. The bolts should be smooth and have no cuts in the paint. If not, usually that means that some work has been done.
Also, make sure that all the edges of the hood, trunk, doors, fenders, etc have a "smooth" feeling to it. If they seem a bit rough, it usually means that it was re-painted.
Also, check to see if the tires are the correct size. I made a mistake once and ended up buying a whole new set of tires.
Good luck! Hope it all turns out well!

cel, these 2 look nice from the small pictures,
Beware that the MY (Model Year) 2000 through 2003 are prone to have more problems than the later MYs 2003 and up.
Just a thought with the monies that you have saved up can you afford to go a couple grand higher, say around $9,000 to 10,0000? <--You don't have to publicly say. Have you thought about the STR version of the S Types?

Jim, from a professional stand point what do you think of this one:
Jaguar : S-Type Jaguar : S-Type | eBay
Other than the 2 missing fog light covers ($130.00 ea,)?

Along with all of the prudent mechanical, electronic, and cosmetic advice that has been provided above, it is paramount that you find, read, and understand the specific arbitration laws that apply to your state. You never know when you may need to pursue them, even in cases where you did your due diligence but still wound up with a problem vehicle....
I would never purchase a vehicle without knowing the current arbitration laws. I've never had to use them, but every deal is different and you must protect yourself accordingly....

CEL, not trying to be a "ninny" about the keys...but if you only get one...and lose it...it takes two to program a new one so most dealers will make you buy two to replace it. (There is a "workaround" involving wrapping someone else's S-type key in foil and using it as a "ghost" (search Brutal's posts)) but not sure how many dealers you can get to do it. Anyway..that is why it is a big deal.
As to MY02 and prior, they "may" be programmable in the privacy of your own home...can't recall...but 03 and up, both FOB's and keys must be programmed by dealer or someone with WDS/IDS. 03 and up had design changes to address numerous flaws that surfaced in the earlier models. Also, take a look at the interior, think there may be a significant styling difference in the dash/console that may matter to you.

Just wanted to add to the very good advice above about keys. The 2003 and up S Type came with 2 keys plus a green headed valet key stock. The keys are very expensive and a pain in the *** to get programmed correctly.
So make sure you get at least two black headed keys with any car. You can live without the valet key and I have never used it.
