Default How could this have happened?

Well for one thing the roads are much better in San Diego that places like the northeast and elsewhere. When I moved from the SF bay area to metro NYC all my cars winced and tried to hide from me.

He's also got good company in San Diego on that count too!
A vintage Lamborghini with over 250K miles on it.

Jack Riddell

There's a segment on Jay Leno's garage about him and his car too.
I know Jack. He and I manage a website for vintage lambos together.
Trust me ... he's had to do MORE than you have but for that type of car it's not that bad.

But I think it's your diligent care and love of this model of car that have made the difference. That and some luck, until very recently.

I think you should celebrate your accomplishment. Congratulations.

I love the "2001 S-Type with ONLY 74K miles on it". That's the spirit!

Hope my s type lasts as long as yours I have only had my s type 2 months and already having problems with injector no2 and parking sensors working one minute then deciding to just give me a constant ringing tone but I still love her

It's awsome to see the S Type get that kind of mileage under it's belt...damn shame that it had to go out the way it did. It's a bit like making it home after serving in an active war, only to be killed by a drunk driver blowing a stoplight. There's never a shortage of stupid in the world...

Default Added 3 pictures...

Hi All,

I have uploaded 3 pictures of my Jaguar S-Type. These are all from the insurance company before the car was totaled. The odometer reading was actually 327130 miles. If you will see the other 2 pictures, the car was in good shape and there was no need for the insurance to total it. Anyway, I miss my Jag...

I am not sure how to post the pictures, however, they are in my album "My sweet Jag", in this forum. Thanks.

How you got to that mileage without replacing the timing tensioners is a true miracle!!!

I think it was a 3.0 - do they need new tensioners?

@ Tiger tug: Once the cylinder #5 was showing misfire, right after I replaced the spark plugs. I took out the plug and luckily for me, I had some grease/dirt on my fingers, which was rubbed off on the porcelain stem of the spark plug. I tried to wipe clean, before putting it back. I found a faint hair line mark that I could not clean. Took my magnifier and found out that it was indeed a hair line crack, a manufacturing defect. That was causing the fault. After replacing that plug, the misfire stopped and the baby ran smooth. If your #2 is on the driver side, as some of the S-Type model years are different, try replacing the plug and the coil pack.

@ Stuart Beattie: Some other luck person snatched that 2001 S-Type with only 75K miles… For temporary purpose, I went and got a Toyota Camry … NO COMPARE TO THE S-TYPE!!!!

@ tbird6 and JagV8: Never did anything with the timing tensioner. Mine was a 3.0 V6. I definitely was lucky. Only the major one was the transmission at around 311K miles, if my memory serves correctly.

@ stevein france: You are right, she owed nothing to me. Even at 327K miles the engine compression, etc. were excellent… she never let me down on the road. I almost feel like saying “I drove her like I stole her”, then again I owned her…
@ bfsgross: I took good care of my baby, S-Type… to the point that sometime my wife would kiddingly say to me that I loved the Jag more than her! Then again I am not sure if she was kidding… at least I am still married to her (going on 32 years)…

@ Norri: It was very frustrating to lose the Jag. It was one of the best cars I ever had. I did not visit the actual Jaguar dealership (here at San Diego) that often, and when I did for dealer parts, one of the service manager would ask me when I would cross 500K, as no other S-Type in their service record had that many miles. The closest only had something like 190K miles.

To the rest of the Jag fan … A big THANKS. I miss the Jag. Besides the Toyota Camry, I am also using a Porsche Boxster. I would like to get a F-Type… may be in the future

Smile A New Jaguar F' Type, Hmmm, Rmmm, Zmmm, MMMM!

Nice thoughts Wams,
as Bfsgross says you have to get back to it...
Well Wams,You still have the CAT "BUG!" It seems.....
Ooh and DREAMS!
At this moment you may think NOTHING can replace your S' Type and I have to say that you know in times when we seem to lose our focus on things and cannot see the way out, it helps to have good guys er sorry good people around us ahem, or GOOD THINGS!
So many of the posts back there hinted you have to get back to it soon, hey Wams, whatever you do keep the ZEST!
The F Type would be an awesome start!!! But, I think in good time you'll have the wonderful opportunity to do what you think is RIGHT!
I think this post will keep on rolling as it's a subtle reminder of how we in general, cherish certain things in this world, so please retain that passion folks! Thank you Wams for taking the time to keep us posted and updating us on your Admirable Quest!
Keep up the Mission Wams and Gods' Luck to YOU!
Stu
