Goodbye for now

Goodbye for now
Over the last three years I drove my dream car, a mid sized Jaguar sedan with the grace, pace and space common to the marque. Never have I driven a smoother and quicker car than my 2003 S-type 3.0. Going in, the Jag served as a weekend car in my sunny Orlando home. In 2011, I moved to Houston, TX where it served as a daily driver in stop and go, suburban loop driving. The duty cycle of that type of driving proved to bee too much for a car that wanted to stretch its legs out on a long distance high speed trip once in a while.
Maintenance and repair costs skyrocketed and nagging faults began to appear. Adding up the cash invested, it was time to say goodbye. I am not going to say she served me well, but I will say that I will miss her.
I am not done with Jaguar, but I am done with having one as a daily driver. My next Jag will serve as a weekend car again, hopefully in a few years, if we are all still around.
Over the last three years, it has been a pleasure reading many of the informative posts about S-type ownership. This has been the most informative forum for me ever. Thank you all for the valuable information, comments, and insight over the years. Thank you for replying to my questions and providing me with the answers I needed to keep her running.
Although I know no one on this forum personally, I appreciate all of your help over the last 3.
To wit, I am taking a hiatus from Jaguar ownership for now.
Maybe FloridaJag will actually be back in Florida driving a 1995-97 XJ or maybe another S-type. Maybe I'll get lucky and stumble on a Mark 2, a 420 or an original S-type. In any case, I won't do it without money and time.
In the meantime take care. See you on the return trip.

Sorry to hear that the S is not living up to your current needs, but totally understand... Ya think??? Been there.. What replaced her?
That said, no need to leave... just the car is leaving.... look at me... I'm still here..LOL
Part of the forum is the passion. For me it is passion for cars. Why stay here? It's the people.
So, stick around. Enjoy these crazy folks. From time to time I'm sure your past experience will help those that currently strive to keep their cars going strong.
Another point.... When I joined, Jim (our Admin) had an X type. He moved on from that yet is still a major part of our family. Ownership is not a mandatory part of joining this club..

I decided to jump on a payment treadmill for a while. I purchased a 2010 Subaru Legacy 2.5i with 38700 miles on the clock. I bought the Subie because of its reliability and packaging. It looks easy to work on and I don't expect that things will break like they did on my Jag. Jon89 mentioned that my car seemed to have more problems than the average S-type. Its a shame, because until one thing after another started breaking earlier this year, I looked forward to driving it every day.
That said, the S-type is still a beautiful car. I may get another someday, or maybe some other Jag. I will pop in from time to time as I have to see what is happening.
This is by far the best automotive forum I have been on so far.

Sorry to hear about you moving on from your S, but it is completely understandable. Congrat's on your Subie purchase - good little cars and I hope it serves you well. Don't be a stranger - keep on checking in here (Jeff is a good example, we couldn't get rid of him if we tried ) - you'll be back in a Jag sooner or later. Let's hope for sooner.
Best of luck!
