Got a Gearbox Fault light now !!!
Hi Forum, As most of you know, I got my tranny rebuilt in April, i believe. Then it was the coils, then the dealer tried to rob me for 5k stating i needed new fuel injectors, but thanks to you guys, i checked and it turned out to be a bad cat, which i replaced and added a couple mods to boot. Now, driving home from class tonight, in my favorite isolated spot, i gave her WOT, accelerated to around 110, then slowed down to my usual 10 miles over the speed limit, between 75 and 80 MPH. Approximately 30 seconds later i get the gearbox fault warning light!! She seems to shift fine, or somewhat fine, maybe a slight, very slight lurch going into all gears. I dont have the codes yet, but needless to say, I am pissed!!! I was stupid to pay almost 7k to have them rebuild the tranny in the first place. I should have just bought a new tranny if I was going to keep the car. Anyway, I'll get the codes tomorrow and I really hope the mechanic that rebuilt the tranny is professional and just go ahead and fixes the problem. With my level of frustration, I really dont want to hear any bull! I guess I'm venting...sorry forum. If you guys have any suggestions, I would love to hear it. You guys have most definitely come through for me in the past...and please forgive the ranting, just frustrated!!

I think you mean P1111? Which is OK. Otherwise it's an intake air sensor code. As you said get them read and cleared to see if they come back. Sometimes you will get a random code that once cleared will never come back.
That P0741 indicates TQ problems.
I forgot when you got the transmission rebuilt was the converter replaced? With a new one or rebuilt? The TQ clutch lining does fail but normally on the early 2003 cars. I don't think I have seen a 2005 with this problem.

Hi tbird6, I honestly don't know if they did or not. I'm not really mechanically inclined, especially with these cars and I never asked. I know I paid almost 7k to get it rebuilt. Is rebuilding/replacing the TQ usually done or should have been done when you get your tranny rebuilt? I guess what I'm asking is should the mechanic have done that anyway? I'll get the codes cleared and see if it comes back. If its the battery though, I should get some other random code also, right?

Honestly, for $7K - that TQ should have been replaced with a rebuilt unit at minimum or new. Yes, it is common for the TQ to be replaced when a trans is rebuilt...

Ok, Mines is still under warranty also, but I got a strange feeling this guy is going to try and say it's two different components and try to have me pay more...which I am absolutely not going to do!

Is the list of parts for the transmission job not listed on the invoice? Might be worth digging that thing up before you go any farther down the TQ road. I know some mechanics just scrawl indecipherable jibber jabber on the invoice, but most these days at least give you an electronic printout that includes parts and labor.

Hi Forum, The mechanic is telling me he's ordering a solenoid for my car. Do you guys think that's just a stop gap measure? The warranty is expiring soon. I got like 1500 miles left on it. So I'm thinking he's going the cheap route, hoping this will last long enough for the warranty to expire. Or am I wrong. Could the issue be a bad solenoid? I really have NOOO faith in mechanics when it comes to my Jag. Seems like folks see $$$$ when they see the Jag and try their best to milk every penny out of you. At least that's been my experience so far.

Yes it is. Its a checkbox and he checked it stating the TQ was included. Now he wants to change the solenoid. I hope he's not putting a bandaid on the issue hoping the warranty will run out and clear him of any real repair work.
