Default Greetings!

Greetings!

I recently purchased a new to me 2005 Jaguar S Type 4.2 with approximately 80,000 miles. Both the previous owner and a good friend that is currently on the Forum suggested that I check it out and possibly join. After lurking on the site for a short time I decided that their suggestions were valid and thought that I should introduce myself before posting any questions/starting any threads. I reside in Ferndale, MI [1st burb out of Detroit along the infamous Woodward Ave.] I must admit that after my first thousand miles I am still smitten with the vehicle and am glad that I took my friends advice and went for the 4.2 [he actually suggested the R but that's another story]. I've been a fan of European cars and motorcycles for quite some time and have owned a number of brands but this is my first Jaguar [I did have a Sterling which to my understanding shared OEM interior suppliers at the time].

Looking forward to asking a couple of questions,

Gerry [Gerard] Radimaker

Pictures often help. Welcome to the club. Bought our first 2003 Jaguar S-Type 4.2
with 110,000 miles back in March. So far, we love it as much as it loves to consume
money put into it. Be prepared for sticker shock when pricing parts. Found a great
website for parts in the US that gets them to you fast. No ***********s. Bookmark
this page, you will need it. Select Jaguar Vehicle Year | JaguarMerriamParts.com

Welcome and all that stuff. I like the V-8 a lot. Very smooth.

Welcome aboard. You'll quickly learn that this forum is by far the most important tool in your toolbox. Plenty of experienced folks here to help you when you request it....

I just turned 90,000 miles in my 2005 S-Type 3.0. I stole it way back in December 2008 during the depths of the recession at 18,000 miles. It's been a great RWD highway cruiser which is exactly what we purchased it to do. While I would rather have the 4.2 in my wife's 2006 XK8 in my S-Type's engine bay as well, it has still been a great bang-for-the-buck sedan. The key to owning Jaguars is to be able to DIY the vast majority of maintenance and repairs. That's where the value of this forum comes into the picture. If you have to pay someone, even an indie, to keep these cars in top shape, they will quickly drain your wallet. The general advice is to keep at least $2,000 in a money market account to serve as your rolling maintenance fund....

Good luck and read up on the forum (especially the stickied threads) whenever you have a few spare minutes. As the years pass, that alone will save you thousands of dollars....

Gerry,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.

As Jon mentioned, there is a lot of helpful information available at this forum, including actual Jaguar service documents, parts catalogs, owners manuals, etc., so it's worth spending some time exploring. And when you have questions, it helps to start by using the Search window at the top of the page, or the Advanced Search function under the Tools tab. Most of the common issues have been addressed multiple times, so you may find the answers you need without having to start a new thread and wait on others to respond.

I like the color combination of your new Jag and as jkallinen mentioned, we'd love to see photos!

Also, in addition to jaguarmerriamparts.com, which is the Jaguar dealer in Merriam, KS, who sells OE Jag parts at discount prices, there are some excellent independent Jaguar parts specialists who offer OEM and aftermarket parts at often much more affordable prices, including forum sponsors Coventry West, SNG Barratt and Jagbits, along with Welsh Enterprises (not far from you in Ohio), Terry's Jags and Motorcars Ltd., and Rock Auto also carries a lot of parts that fit your car.

Cheers,

Don
