Default Grinding noise when turning over

Hi all, well its that time of the year in my life when my baby starts to give me troubles. Out of nowhere yesterday my car stopped turning on, i had originally thought it was the battery but was surprised when i heard a horrible grinding sound when trying to turn on the car. I called AAA and they said that i needed a jump, so for one reason or another after having waited 2 hours for the guy to come and give me a boost , the car turned on. The moment i parked it at home i had a feeling it wouldn't start again, so i ran to o'reilly and bought a new battery. installed it .. and bam the same thing happened , a very loud grinding noise when trying to turn over the engine ( and it took some time to get it to turn on because the engine just wouldn't start) . I replaced the Battery and crankshaft position sensor (because of a obd code error) and i still have this noise when trying to turn my engine over . I can't even turn it on , do you guys believe it to be the starter ? Could i have royally screwed up my flywheel from attempting to turn it on so many times ?

By the way, its a 2001 Jaguar S-type 4.0L w/ 176,000 miles on it

Any help would be kindly appreciated !

Also just want to add... The car sounds fine when it turns over, its not rough idling . The problem is turning it on .

It could be the starter or a few other things such as
bore wash

Sounds like a worn starter or solenoid. I had the same thing on another car before. Most starters/solenoids go almost instantly when they go. Not much warning.

I wouldn't want to do it myself. I don't have the lifts/jacks to get under enough to work on it. I would find a shop to do it. Others may be more flexible than I am. O'Reilly Auto Parts has the starter for $163.
