That's how I installed them. You will need a spring compressor and various torx head bits. Also be careful not to stretch the brake lines (might be easier to undo the caliper bolts and hang the caliper with a bungee cord or something). I installed mine a couple years ago so I'm not recalling everything 100%, but I don't remember anything too tricky or special.

You remove the coilover assembly and swap out your components. It takes a little more time than stand alone coil setups but there's nothing hard about it. The s-type makes it even easier than normal as all the joints in the front are all slip fit.

Actually I have. The coil spring was a PITA to get out of a GT without taking off the LCA. I ended up having a friend with a pry bar push down on the LCA to take the spring out. Putting them back in was simple as you didn't have to compress the spring. With the Jag, sure it might take a bit longer when you have to use the coil spring compressor, but I would say it was easier (and less dangerous). Cars with macpherson struts the only difference was when you use a spring compressor really.
