Default Has anyone managed to fit a 17" wheel on the back of the STR?

My traction problems were pretty bad at the track the other day.

These problems are only going to get worse as the hp of my STR goes up. I am planning a two pronged approach.

First I am going to fit a set of drag radials to the back of my car. Something like the M/T et street, which they do make in limited 18" sizes, but I would prefer a smaller wheel to give me more side wall on the tires. I fully realize that the car will look retarded with 18's up front and 17's in back. This will be a drag track only thing.

Second I am going to have an LSD rear installed. Usually I do all my own work but when it comes down to doing gear changes, they need to be perfect. I have a friend that is very good at setting up rear ends.

Be careful you can't change the ratio in the diff, the transmission will go nuts...

As I understand it 17" will fit on the back, but not the front...but that's only secondhand information.

As long as you can clear the brake caliper you will be fine.

I happen to have a 17x8 wheel to test fit at the house that is also 5x108 from my Volvo. I'm going to test it and see how the clearance is with both the main caliper and epb.

I have no interest in changing out the diff ratio at this point. This is a street car most of the time, and I like the tall 6th gear to cruise in. I don't even know if changing the diff ratio would help as this might add another shift into the 1/4 mile.

Worst case, run a floating caliper from the NA 4.2 in the back.

Changing the gear ratio would definitely help in the 1/4 mile. You won't add another shift unless you go way aggressive, like something beyond 4.10. As it is, these cars use 4th for all of a second or less in most cases.
