I may want to get a nitrous kit for my car, was hoping to hear from anyone here with experience.

Personally, I am not a big advocate of nitrous use on late-model cars; as engine technology and power-adder development has improved over the years, nitrous appears to have fallen off a great deal in popularity in the aftermarket,

First off, its use and deployment as a power adder is pretty limited and cumbersome; if you've used it, you know what i mean. if you haven't, well try it and see how much you like it. To me its like poppin' a viagra; gives you a temporary boost, but then you're always left worried about getting caught without it, (not speaking from personal experience here, lol, no really!)

Realistically, you're mostly going to deploy it at the track, which accounts for a minuscule amount of time you actually use and enjoy the STR, which to me right there is the biggest 'why bother?' reason.

Then we have to consider, the electronic nature of the vehicles engine management.

You absolutely cannot consider spraying with DSC on. When the electronic traction control system kicks in, and cuts a combination of throttle, fuel, spark and basically engine speed, you're just asking for a potentially destructive backfire,

Even with DSC off, I am highly suspicious whether or not the factory electronics give up total control,

I'm sure there has been at least one STR in the past who has sprayed a small wet shot, with DSC off and deployed intelligently, it can probably be used safely, but it's not something I would risk personally,

I'm going to take the side of 'nah don't do it bro' because I'm sure someone will step in saying go for it, nothing to lose, so you'll hear both sides of the argument, but that's my two cents,

I think the money would be better spent holding out for the avos twin screw kit (STR application coming soon!) as that is seemingly the most well-rounded (if not only) power adder upgrade to the 4.2L SC...

Oh and post up your best time slip from the other night!

I'm kinda in the same camp as GT42R, but I have considered it or methanol injection or the like. I would be a little worried to use it, and to me it would just seem like I'm kinda "cheating" in a sense that its not a feature the car would use all the time like a turbo or supercharger, whether I'm at the drag strip or not.

What's the goal? If its to run 12's, keep her in D!

For the $800 to $1000 and inability to have a nitrous tune be available, I would rather allocate that money somewhere else; chiller killer, meth, drag radials, a higher stalled torque convertor, or LSD.

Great response from GT42r.

I have seriously contemplated a 50 or 75 hp shot that would fire when in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gears. Avos knows more than anyone from his experience with his twin screw (real power) that the drive train would be highly stressed--I read that he's installed upgraded solenoids in his trans. I'm trying to search this but I'm currently on my phone and it is not as easy to search/locate..

Pretty sure those 'upgraded solenoids' were for his XK car that has a mercedes 5 speed transmission, not applicable to our ZF 6 speed,

If you could get the STR to shift to redline in 1-2-3, that could equal a few gains by the 330' mark, doesn't seem like any tune or transmission flash will ever be available to help us with that though,

Thanks for the correction. I'm actually in the ER trying to pass the time. Been waiting over 4 hours to get a simple ultrasound.

What about using it as an intercooler chiller?

Yeah, solenoids were not for the ZF 6HP26 we have.

Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like I will be closing my file on this idea and allocate that money toward safer things...

I'm in the same boat as you. I really want to run at least a 50shot it would make more like 70hp because of the cooling affect. I know the older xjrs spray 100shots and be fine. There is a guy that use to be on the forums who had a 75shot and put down 430+whp o in his str. Whis the highest whp str I've heard of and claimed 11sec passes. I'm sure the motor would handle a small shot no problem.. I actually have a kit waiting to get put on. I just don't know all the hook ups on an str yet

Just to add a comment. So far the ZF 6 speed does seem able to absorb a good bit more power than stock so it is not a limit at this time.

Maybe if the LSD and a lower gear become available someone will break one.
