Have the exhaust like I want it now :)
So driving home last night I decided that the exhaust the previous owner did on my STR was just to loud and drone for my liking. Today after sleeping in due to a long weekend I headed up to the exhaust shop to get it sorted out.
The exhaust how I received it had the resonators removed, twin Borla turbo IIs mounted at the rear with the stock 2.25" piping retained. It sounded awesome just to loud for a jag and droned at highway speed. Also the tips hung a little low maybe 3" from the top of the exhaust openings in the rear valance. Things like that drive me nuts LOL.
SO I had them add two 4" round magnapack resonators, do an X-pipe before the new resonators and unfortunately they didn't have the magnaflow high flow cats in stock so I ordered them and will go back new week to have them installed.
The maganflows with the borla sounds great! Still has that rumble at idle and sounds mean at full tilt but at normal cruise nice and mellow and no drone, thank god! The tips are now up where they belong and oddly it seams to come on boost quicker? Maybe I had lost to much back pressure before? We will see if it makes any change on the dyno once the cats are in.
Only took one pic right after the resonators went in but here they are. I will get some of the back once the rain stops.

You will really like it. I am almost affraid the high flows will change the sound, it's perfect now. Looking forward to see if the HF cats make any diff on the dyno, I need to dyno it with the X pipe now to see what that did if anything. In the past an X pipe has made the most improvment in power.

Looks bad ***! I might also go with the resonators now because the sound is awesome but on the highway its not droning a lot, its just a bit too loud for me, so anyhow, did you stick with the stock piping at 2.25" all way and what part# was that 4" round magnapack resonators you used?
Thanks,
Thanks,

Yes stuck with the 2.25 to keep the TQ up. I used the 4" magnaflow 14" magnapack #10445 put it just slightly further back then the stock resonators and did a 2.25" X pipe right in front of them. The x should make more power then what I had, we shall see.
I really love the sound it was just to loud before. The borlas can be raspy when unrestricted.

qwikcat, that's my 03 silver STR! Give it back! I'm sticking with 2.5" pipe cause she's runnin a 3 lb pulley and having the blower rebuilt and ported. Let's see some dyno's to see 2.25" vs 2.50" pipe. I initially wanted to go with the stock 2.25 piping but slipped into the dark side of power. I'm pleased with the results but must know what's best. Going to another dyno operator after blower rebuild/port, one who'll give me the results on the spot, unlike first dyno op. Good thread dudes.

I don't think you will need the 2.50 but we will see. I plan to run the 3# as well as a port also, might take the blower off in a month or two. I have run 40psi of boost on a turbo through 3" so I dont think the 2.25 will be to small but time will tell and since we will have two to compare with both pipes it should be a good test.

Also getting ready to do the STR. Put the hiflow cats on the 01 jag and it made a nice difference. Anything wrong with the stock resonators? Going with 2.25" pipe, x pipe stock resonators and trying to figure out a way to do the dynomax vt muffler. But the 2.25" version only comes in center outlet.

You can put get the VT in 2.50 or 3" and put it on a 2.25 system they just swag the pipes into the larger muffler. The VT is what I would have picked if it didn't already have the borlas. That should be a nice system.
The stock resonators are more restrictive then these. Kind of the same as high flow cats vs stock, I don't how restrictive the stock one is just that these are free flow designed.
Bfsgross, you on let's see how they stack up in the end. Loser gets to buy new pipe LOL
