Default Having trouble sourcing CATS Bilstein Dampers for 2006 S Type R

As the title indicates, I’ve been having a fair bit of trouble sourcing some Front dampers on my 2006 S Type R. From advice on the Facebook group I’ve contacted Moss Europe, Terry’s Jaguar Parts, FCP Euro, as well as Andy’s Auto Sport and all of them have told me that they do not have the part in stock & it is on back order. I’ll be contacting SNG Barrett, as well as the dealer here shortly to see if they possibly have it in stock.

Hope this isn’t the beginning of a bunch of parts going out of stock completely for our Jags..

If anyone knows a place that has the front adaptive Bilstein shock absorbers in stock please let me know.

Called the dealer and they apparently can’t source them either.

We were just discussing this in another thread have a look https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...5/#post2675043

There are multiple part numbers for the front cats type shocks for the STR, 3 or 4 I think so you'd have to see what they have to say about that. Let us all know if it works out.

Very interesting thread that was. I left a voicemail with shockwarehouse.com but I highly doubt they’ll have the right ones for that price. I’ve since called the dealer since, and was quoted $950 dollars per shock on the front, and I do not want to imagine what the rear would be priced at. According to the dealer it’d take at least 4-6 weeks to arrive as it’d be coming from the UK. They did say that they also had the mounts and isolators in stock for $142 & $34.41 respectively. The dealer I called was Jaguar Houston North 1-(844)-896-1938. Should be option 4 and I spoke to Wes, very nice gentleman.

They proceeded to give me part #XR852374 that I could use to cross reference as necessary for my 2006 STR.

SNG Barrett of all companies was also helpful, and stated that they could order those particular shocks with that part number for $763.20. Now I’m not sure how accurate their claims of having it within a week are but that’s what I was told over the phone. Jaguar Houston West quoted me over $1,000 per shock so I didn’t bother following up with them.

Wanted to be sure and post links for those that are interested in acquiring some shocks. From the smell test I’d say the Jaguar dealer or SNG Barrett would be the best bet to order from but they’re of course significantly more expensive. It’s a bit rich for my blood and I’m considering ordering some coilovers and being done with it.

Shop here in Houston I’ve worked with in the past Klutch Motors, who I had Install BC Racing Coilovers, quoted me $2,000 for all 4 corners installed with an alignment as well as corner balancing. He also ensures the ride height fitment is to your satisfaction. Being as it works out to $500 dollars per corner with labour included, and I’ve worked with the gentleman in the past I’m seriously considering this option as well. If anyone is interested in this option too I’ll be sure and leave their information as well so you have your pick of what you want to do.

I’ll include a picture of my XJ8 with the BC Coilover’s as a reference. I put over 50,000 miles on these coilovers with no problems. Car never rubbed and rode as good as the air suspension but handled significantly better. I’d liken it to a Miata almost.

Klutch Motors is the shop name
Address is 19005 FM 529 STE 205 Cypress TX, 77433
Phone Number is 832-974-4852

Being as everything else suspension wise is used & old, I’d rather not go that route. These cars are 20 years or approaching that shortly. Do what you will but with myself drag racing the STR, I like to put the best stuff on my car possible within reason.

I’ve also had a look on eBay and they seemingly only had 1 when I looked. Does me no good as I replace shocks in pairs and usually just do all 4 at once

Not sure what you’re referring to with the widow maker comment but if you’re accurate with the 50 bucks ie Euros’s per shocks for adaptive dampers for a 2006 S Type R facelift please post a link. I’ve been looking for quite some time and I’m sure many others have too.

It’s fairly common for struts/shocks to be replaced on all 4 corners of the car.

Ahhhhhh, you’re referring to used assemblies, not shocks… you made it sound like you knew of a place to get brand new shocks with cats adaptive damping for a STR for $50 bucks.

Thank you Staatsof for the assistance. N65128 is the last 6 of my Vin. That work’s out to about $685 for each and $1,370 for the set. Rears are in stock for $350 a piece thankfully with a lifetime warranty so for all new shocks looking at just over $2,070 dollars. Shipping is free with FCP euro so that works out. I’ll check out the link & website you just posted.

Front shocks on the website you posted came out to 948.09 pounds or $1,191.46 with shipping which is an even better deal. Many thanks.

Now future STR members can find the shocks with ease, and with Adaptive Dampening if their heart so desires. DHL is quite a good mail service, I’ve used them before.

I’ll be sure to double check and verify that they are in fact in stock but it looks hopeful.

Rears don’t seem to be much of a problem to source, I’ve called FCP euro and they have them in stock.

Submitted an inquiry to double check availability on the front shocks from the link you posted earlier and I should hear back hopefully within 48 hours. Thanks again for the assistance.

Have you considered expanding your search to include the whole strut assembly? That part number is for the shock absorber only, but not the coil spring, isolators, etc., right?

Lots of shops prefer to swap out the whole assembly and not mess with spring compressors, finding a bad isolator, and so on. Can’t say for sure with the Type R, but there is a lot of aftermarket support for most vehicles.

When I replaced the front struts on my ‘02, I was quite surprised to see such availability. Not much difference in price, either.

I got Bilstein rear shocks for my car from Tire Rack for a good price a while ago, I don't remember if they had the adaptive shocks for the STR though.
